Klippy 1.1.0
Klippy is on the Mac App Store.
Get it on the Mac App Store — free, no account, nothing leaves your Mac.
Prefer to download it directly? The disk image below is signed with a Developer ID, notarized by Apple and stapled, so it opens without a warning and verifies even offline.
Fixed
The app closed itself when Touch ID was switched on. The helper that keeps the panel alive during the fingerprint prompt was not bound to the main thread, so it put the window back from a background thread once the prompt closed. macOS aborts a process for that. It is main-thread only now, with a second guard behind it.
Recall shortcuts ignored the lock. With Require Touch ID on, Control-Command-1 through 0 still put clips on the clipboard for anyone sitting at the keyboard, card numbers included. They now open the panel and ask for your fingerprint.
Password managers could still leak through. Throwaway copies that apps mark as transient were only skipped while the password-manager setting was on. They are always skipped now, whatever your settings say.
Link previews consumed one-time links. Loading a preview means loading the page, and some links do their work the moment they open: a password reset, a magic sign-in, an unsubscribe. Previews now refuse anything that looks like one, and the setting still turns the network off entirely.
Merging two pictures threw the pictures away. It produced a clip holding their labels. Pictures are now left out of a merge, file clips contribute their real paths, and Klippy tells you what it skipped.
Dragging a clip and letting go over the list filed it again as a brand new clip.
A clip copied a second ago read "in 0s" instead of "now".
Changed
- Around 300 lines of dead code removed: an unused search fallback, a debug dump, a hash set nothing read, and preview machinery nothing rendered.
- The test suite is now 78 tests, covering the privacy rules, the preview rules and merging.
- New README, and the landing page and launch film source now live in the repo.
- The packaging script notarizes and staples the app itself, not only the disk image, so it verifies with no network.
Requires
macOS 13 Ventura or later.
Klippy v1.0.9
Fixes
- Custom date range is now clickable. The custom range picker was unusable — it was presented as a sheet, which is broken inside a menu-bar app, so it swallowed every click. It's now an inline panel with a real clickable calendar and a From / To toggle.
- Removed a plaintext clipboard log. A leftover debug routine was writing the full text of everything you copied to
/tmp/klippy_debug.logon every capture. It's gone.
Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
SHA-256 (Klippy.dmg): 007d1a7e2d85046373e5c819e15d689d97e3c91b1d54167d5063591b5db55474
Klippy v1.0.8
Fixes
- No more duplicate captures from voice-to-text apps — added a 2-second time-window dedup for text. Apps that write the same content twice in rapid succession (common with voice-to-text and some paste utilities) no longer create duplicate entries. Intentional re-copies of the same string after the window still work normally.
Klippy v1.0.7
Fixes
- Search now returns instant, accurate results — eliminated async stale-result bug where previous search results would flash before correct ones appeared
- Strict file classification —
file://URLs and all URL schemes no longer misclassified as files - Search accuracy — removed fuzzy LIKE wildcard matching that polluted results with non-matching items
Klippy v1.0.6
New Features
- Merge clips — Right-click any item → Select for Merge, then tap another to merge them. The merged item lives in your main list with a link icon and a MERGED badge. Tapping opens a viewer with per-row tap-to-copy.
- Merged view tab — Filter to see only merged clips via the link icon in the header.
- Pinned view tab — Pin icon in the header shows only pinned items. Pinned items always surface at the top regardless of how old they are.
- Launch at login toggle in Settings (uses modern SMAppService API).
- Haptic feedback for copy, pin, merge, save, and delete actions (toggleable in Settings).
Fixes
- Search accuracy — Removed the fuzzy LIKE query that was returning items that did not actually contain the search term. Every result now strictly contains what you typed.
- Strict file classifier — Completely rewrote file-path detection to be hard-strict: rejects URL schemes (including
file://,chrome://,data:, etc.), CLI commands, code indicators, multi-line content, and anything with forbidden characters. False positives eliminated.
Klippy v1.0.5
Fixes
- Code snippets (PHP, bash, imports) no longer misclassified as files
- Category tabs (API Keys, Payment Cards, etc.) now show all items, not just recent 1000
- Commands with file paths (nano, vim, docker) correctly classified as text
- Hardened code detection: PHP tags, shebangs, $variables, import/require statements
Includes all v1.0.4 features
- Saved snippets, redesigned Settings, fast async search, IP/identifier detection
Klippy v1.0.4

- Hardened file classifier — known-extension whitelist and digit-segment guard eliminate false positives (IPs, version strings, domain names)
- App is now signed and notarized — no more "app is damaged" warnings on other Macs
- Fixed app icon — regenerated all sizes from correct source
Fixes
