• Triage the Inbox in bulk. Hover any notification and a checkbox appears in the gutter. Tick a few, and a bar slides in above the list with a running count and a single Mark as read — one action instead of hunting down each row's checkmark. Selection is keyboard-reachable too: tab onto a checkbox and hit Space.
• Mark all read. The same bar carries a Mark all read button whenever anything is unread. With no filter applied it clears your entire GitHub notification inbox in a single request — including threads this app never loaded — exactly like the button on github.com/notifications. It takes two clicks: the first arms it, the second confirms. Nothing is sent until you confirm.
• Under a filter, it stays honest. With a category, "Unread only", or a search active, the button reads Mark 7 read and touches only those seven. It never quietly means something broader than what you can see.

Notes

• Marking read always reaches GitHub. The Inbox is a mirror of github.com/notifications, not a local dismissal list, so anything you clear here is cleared everywhere — and it can't be undone from this app. That's why "Mark all read" asks twice.
• If a mark-read request fails, the affected rows flip back to unread rather than leaving the list showing a state GitHub never accepted.
• Bulk requests are paced to stay inside GitHub's rate limits, so clearing a large selection won't knock out the next background refresh.

GitHub Tasks v0.5.4

Changed

• The app is now called GitHub Tasks (it was shown as “GH Tasks”). Same app, clearer name — it updates in place, so there's nothing to reinstall. Your sources, sign-in, and settings all carry over automatically.

Upgrading

• Existing installs update themselves — the auto-updater replaces the app in place and keeps everything. On macOS the app's icon in Finder may still read “GH Tasks” until you next download a fresh copy; everything inside (window, menus, About) shows the new name right away.
• Fresh downloads: the installer files are now named GitHub.Tasks_* (previously GH.Tasks_*).

GH Tasks v0.5.3

Fixes

• No more stray Dock icon. Clicking a desktop notification could promote GH Tasks from a menu-bar-only app into a Dock-visible one. It now stays in the menu bar where it belongs — the fix runs on the main thread and re-asserts menu-bar-only whenever macOS reactivates the app.
• Notifications open GitHub. Clicking a notification opens the underlying issue or pull request on github.com in your browser, instead of popping the app window.
• Notifications group by repository. Multiple pings from the same repo collapse into a single expandable stack in Notification Center, with one place to clear them, instead of piling up as separate alerts.

• Beta update channel. Turn on Settings → General → Receive beta updates to auto-update from the beta channel — early fixes and features land there before they reach stable. GH Tasks v0.5.0

New

• Inbox filters are now multi-select checkboxes. The old single-choice Category dropdown became a checkbox popover — the same pattern the Projects tab uses for Status. Pick any combination of categories (they OR together) and see a live count next to each. Empty selection means "All."
• A dedicated "Unread only" toggle. Read-state is now its own switch beside the Category picker, independent of which categories you've chosen — so you can, say, show unread + Mentioned + Assigned in one view. Both the category selection and the unread toggle persist across relaunches.
• You can finally filter subscriptions. A new Subscribed & other category surfaces the reasons that make up most of a busy inbox — subscribed, CI activity, releases, state changes — which previously had no checkbox and only ever showed under "All." Check it to isolate them, or check the other four categories to hide the subscription noise entirely.

Notes

• Because filters persist, the Inbox reopens with whatever category/unread selection you last used. Clear it from the popover's Clear button (or untick everything) to return to "All." While any filter is active, infinite scroll pauses — filters operate on already-loaded items, so it won't silently page in items you can't see the effect of.

• Notification-permission hint in Settings. macOS never re-prompts once you've denied (or previously turned off) notifications for an app — until now GH Tasks had no way to tell you that was the reason nothing was arriving. Settings now shows a warning with a one-click link straight to System Settings → Notifications whenever permission is off.

What's new in v0.4.3

The Inbox now genuinely mirrors github.com/notifications — same order, same items, real read/unread — plus infinite scroll, search, and a cleaner toolbar.

Fixes

• Closed/merged issues and PRs were being silently hidden from the Inbox. GitHub keeps a notification visible after its issue or PR closes or merges — closing something doesn't retroactively hide the alert. The app was doing the opposite, dropping any closed/merged item from the list entirely. Fixed: the Inbox now shows everything GitHub shows; open/closed state is only used to avoid pinging about something already resolved.
• The Inbox list order didn't match GitHub's. A leftover "unread-first" sort could float an old-but-unread item above a newer-but-read one, which isn't how github.com/notifications orders things. Fixed to preserve GitHub's own order.
• Marking an item Done in the app could hide it forever, even after brand-new GitHub activity. GitHub reuses a notification thread's id for future unrelated events (a new comment or mention doesn't get a fresh id), so a local "already handled" flag could permanently mask a thread. The Inbox no longer has a local dismissal concept at all — it's a pure mirror of GitHub's real read/unread state.
• Read notifications weren't actually being requested from GitHub, despite the intent to show them — only unread ones ever loaded.

New

• Real "Mark read." The checkmark on an unread row now marks the actual GitHub notification thread read and updates instantly — no more local-only state that can drift from your real inbox.
• Infinite scroll. The Inbox loads 50 at a time and fetches more automatically as you scroll, instead of stopping at a hard cap.
• Search. A search box filters whatever's currently loaded by title, repo, or reason.
• Cleaner toolbar. The filter chips (All / Unread / Review requested / Mentioned / Participating / Assigned) are now a compact dropdown, freeing up room for search. Unread rows show a small accent dot instead of bold-vs-dimmed styling, closer to GitHub's own look.

GH Tasks v0.3.0

What's new in v0.3.0

See the pull request that closes an issue right in your task list, a cleaner row layout, and a new density setting so you can fit the board to your screen.

New

• Linked-PR indicators. Every issue now shows the pull request(s) development-linked to it — the Closes #123 / sidebar relationship that auto-closes the issue when the PR merges — as a colored PR #N you can click to open. The color tells you the state at a glance: green = open, purple = merged, red = closed, muted = draft. Works on both the Projects and Issues tabs.
• Milestone pills. If an issue belongs to a milestone, it's shown on the row (click to open the milestone on GitHub).
• Row density. A new Settings → General → Row density control with three presets:
  • Compact — two lines per row, labels folded inline. The most items on screen.
  • Default — a clean three-line row where the metadata line never wraps and labels get their own line.
  • Comfortable — the same layout with more breathing room and slightly larger text.

Changed

• Redesigned list rows. Each row now leads with the title and a color-coded status tag, followed by a quiet metadata line (linked PR · repo · number · time) and a labels line. A thin status-color stripe runs down the left edge. The result is calmer and easier to scan than the previous design, where colored label pills competed with everything else and wrapped onto extra lines. Changing an item's status still works exactly as before — click the status tag.

Under the hood

• Linked-PR and milestone data on the Projects tab piggybacks on the existing Projects v2 GraphQL query (no extra network round trip). The Issues tab enriches REST search results with a single batched GraphQL query.
• Expanded the automated QA suite to cover the linked-PR indicators and every density preset (including a guard that the Default row never wraps).
