@chakrank chakrank released this 14 Oct 13:06

What's New in BareStats v1.2.0

Mathematical Matrix Grid Layout Engine (layout = custom_grid)

  • Arbitrary 2D Spatial Placement: Design custom multi-row and multi-column telemetry widgets directly in config.ini (grid_row_1 = cpu | . | . | ram, etc.).
  • Automatic Column Spans: Adjacent identical cell tokens on any row merge seamlessly into a single wide contiguous block.
  • Empty Spacer Slots: Support for . or null or blank | | slots for freeform alignment.
  • Static Label Tokens: Render custom text or section headers without telemetry formatting brackets (text:Label or label:Label).
  • Resilient Fallback Protection: Empty or all-spacer matrices automatically fall back to the default synthesized template.

Component Island Micro-HWND Architecture (grid_mode = islands)

  • Distributed Micro-HWND Surfaces: Each non-empty cell renders on its own isolated layered window calculated from global origin coordinates via cell_gap and row_gap.
  • Zero Transparent Surface Bloat: Completely eliminates large transparent layered windows spanning multi-monitor displays, reducing Desktop Window Manager (DWM) alpha composition overhead.
  • Show Desktop (Win+D) Resilience: Dedicated IslandWndProc actively intercepts WM_WINDOWPOSCHANGING and re-asserts HWND_TOPMOST Z-order, preventing stats from disappearing behind the taskbar.
  • Compact Unified Mode: grid_mode = unified maintains a single compact window with zero padding for tightly packed clusters.

Multi-GPU Grid Wrapping & Asymmetric GPU Configuration

  • Multi-Row GPU Wrapping (layout = grid): Automatically wraps dense multi-GPU compute setups across stacked rows using max_gpus_per_row.
  • Hierarchical Per-Adapter Overrides ([GPU0], [GPU1]): Configure independent per-device sensor toggles (show_temp, show_power, show_fan, vram_mode) for asymmetric rigs (e.g. detailed gaming metrics on primary dGPU and minimal VRAM-only monitoring on background AI compute cards).
  • Direct GPU Cell Tokens: Place specific adapters anywhere on the grid (gpu0, gpu1, gpu0_vram, gpu1_vram, gpu0_temp, etc.) with dynamic background hardware target registration.

Hardware Auto-Introspection & Non-Destructive Schema Migration

  • Automatic Hardware Comments: Initial configuration generation introspects physical DXGI adapters and annotates config.ini comments with detected GPU model names, vendor IDs, and hardware indices.
  • In-Place Schema Migration: Safely upgrades v1.0/v1.1 configuration files to schema_version = 120 without altering user custom coordinates, margins, or color palettes.
  • Polling Interval Clamping: refresh_interval_ms is guarded within [100, 60000] ms, safely defaulting to 1000 ms on sub-100 values.

Automated Test Suite Expansion

  • 18 automated verification steps in BareStatsTests.exe testing schema migration, matrix parsing, cell merging, island layout math, multi-GPU grid wrapping, and driver fault recovery.

Verification & Checksum

@chakrank chakrank released this 10 Oct 17:32

BareStats v1.1.0

An ultra-lightweight, zero-overhead native telemetry overlay for Windows. Engineered for local AI/ML workloads (Ollama, PyTorch, vLLM, ComfyUI), competitive gaming, and non-intrusive desktop monitoring.

What's New in v1.1.0

  • Precision VRAM Allocation Modes (vram_mode):

    • physical (default): Reports gross hardware silicon capacity (e.g. 16.0 GB) matching retail packaging and Windows Task Manager.
    • usable: Reports net allocatable video memory excluding static driver reservations (e.g. 15.6 GB), preventing unexpected Out of Memory (OOM) allocation failures during local LLM and diffusion model loading.
  • Expanded Multi-Vendor GPU Support:

    • AMD Radeon: Added native telemetry for discrete Radeon GPUs, tracking silicon temperatures, board power draw, and fan speeds (RPM and percentage).
    • Intel Arc & Iris Xe: Added native telemetry for Intel discrete and integrated graphics, surfacing package temperatures, power draw, and fan speeds.
    • NVIDIA: Isolated driver and firmware static reservations to deliver a true 0.0 GB idle baseline.
  • Universal Graphics Engine Monitoring:

    • Added native GPU utilization tracking for integrated graphics (Intel UHD / Iris Xe, AMD APUs) and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite (ARM64) systems, ensuring load percentages display accurately on laptops and APUs without discrete vendor software.
  • Simultaneous Side-by-Side Multi-GPU Monitoring:

    • Monitor multiple GPUs simultaneously on a single overlay line (e.g. primary discrete GPU alongside integrated graphics, or dual workstation GPUs) using gpu_index = 0, 1 or gpu_index = all.
  • Automated Verification & Driver Hardening:

    • Integrated an automated multi-vendor verification test suite into GitHub CI to validate telemetry accuracy across different architectures.
    • Fortified driver lifecycle recovery to ensure seamless, crash-free reconnection after display sleep, monitor disconnects, or GPU driver resets.

Key Features

  • Zero Kernel Drivers: Pure unprivileged Win32 architecture; zero risk of anti-cheat bans (Riot Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye, Ricochet compatible).
  • 100% Offline & Private: Zero outbound network connections, zero telemetry analytics, zero background services.
  • Ultra-Low Footprint: ~4.5 MB resident memory and true 0.00% idle CPU duty cycle via sub-microsecond dirty-frame bypasses.
  • Optimus Battery Guard: Automatically protects mobile discrete GPU low-power sleep states (D3-cold) when monitoring integrated graphics on laptops.
  • Physical Network Throughput: Zero-driver gateway throughput telemetry (NET X.XM↓ X.XM↑) with automatic filtering of virtual, WSL, bridge, and VPN adapters.
  • Interactive Drag-to-Reposition: Press Ctrl + Shift + M (or Ctrl + Alt + M) to reposition the overlay anywhere across any connected monitor, or right-click the system tray icon.
  • Instant Visibility Toggle: Press Ctrl + Shift + H (or Ctrl + Alt + H) to instantly show or hide the overlay on demand.
  • Zero-Restart Config Hot-Reload: Live background file watcher for seamless updates via config.ini.
