Halo for Mac v1.0.1
Halo: Combat Evolved for Mac (Apple silicon), the macOS port of OpenCE.
What's new in 1.0.1
- The picture shows. 1.0.0 could show only a black screen, with the menus' sound playing.
- Internet play works. 1.0.0 computed internet play's encryption and signatures wrongly on the Mac, so the server browser stayed empty and invites and Discord joins failed.
- Voice chat no longer crashes the game when another player talks.
- The server browser works like Halo PC's: click a column's title to sort by it (click again for the other order); FILTERS (empty and full games, ping, game type, teamplay, missing maps); the Internet/LAN switch; click a game to select it, then double-click it or click JOIN GAME to join. A game that you select shows its ping: the game reaches its host, as joining does (
network.browser_ping = falseinconfig.tomlturns this off). - After a crash, the game no longer waits at its start behind macOS's "reopen windows?" question.
- Your settings are kept: 1.0.0 wrote a
config.tomlthat it could not read back. If you ran 1.0.0, delete~/Library/Application Support/OpenCE/config.tomlonce, and the game writes a good one.
Install
- Download Halo.dmg below, open it and drag Halo into Applications.
- Open Halo. The first time, if macOS says that it cannot check the app (it is not notarized): click Done, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway next to "Halo was blocked", and confirm.
- At the first start, select your disc image (
.isoor.xiso) of Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox. The game copies its maps (about 2 GB) and starts.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later); macOS 11 or later (tested on macOS 27).
- Your own copy of the game: the game data is not included.
Halo keeps its maps, saves and settings in ~/Library/Application Support/OpenCE. Halo is a trademark of Microsoft; this is a fan project, not affiliated with Microsoft, Bungie or Xbox.
