Links to a paragraph keep landing on it, and WorkBuddy is found on Windows again.

Links that keep landing

A link to a paragraph names it by an id: a textfold:// link in Obsidian, a note, a citation in an answer. Some of these ids could change under the link. A PDF's paragraphs were named by their places, so after Convert accurately a link could open the paragraph next to the one it was made on. A Markdown document's ids were worked out again each time it was read.

Now a paragraph and a section keep their ids for the life of their document:

  • After an edit, a new conversion of a PDF, or a later TextFold, a paragraph that is still there keeps its id, even when it was edited or moved.
  • A new paragraph gets an id no paragraph of the document had before, so an old link never lands on the wrong one.
  • A link to a paragraph that is no longer in the text opens the section it was in, and says so.
  • For apps such as the Obsidian plugin, GET /api/ids/<id> tells which ids are still there and which are gone.

Documents you already have keep the ids they have now. Thanks to @adalach (#47, #53).

WorkBuddy on Windows

WorkBuddy 5.8 keeps a second resources folder inside its own, and TextFold stopped looking there: it found no agent at all. Now it finds WorkBuddy wherever it was installed, on any drive. Thanks to @LyotoDS for tracking it down (#54).

Download

Your computer File
Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) TextFold-mac-arm64.dmg

The Mac apps are signed and notarized by Apple. The Windows app is not signed yet. The first time you open it, Windows asks: choose More info, then Run anyway.

Already using TextFold 0.10.2 or later? The app offers this version by itself, or check from the menu (TextFold › Check for Updates… on a Mac, Help › Check for Updates… on Windows).

The Python package

python3 -m pip install -U textfold

If TextFold helps you read, a ⭐ on the repository helps others find it.
