PDFs open without the PDF engine, the library has search and folders, and questions can be sent, stopped and deleted.

What's new

  • PDFs without the PDF engine. A PDF that carries its own text, as most papers from publishers and preprint servers do, now opens at once, with nothing more to install. Its figures are found by their captions and cut whole from the pages. A scanned PDF still needs the engine, and so do formulas set as LaTeX. Thanks to @sylvainHellin (#8).
  • arXiv papers without an HTML version are read from their PDF.
  • Your library. Search the sidebar with ⌘K or /. Make folders and drag documents into them. Order the list by kind, by date added or by last opened.
  • Questions. Questions have a send button. While an answer is being written, the button stops it, and the question goes back into the field to be put right. You can write the next question meanwhile. Any question can be deleted from a conversation with its answer.
  • A model for answers. In Settings › Models, answering questions can use a stronger model and more reasoning than writing the levels. Both use the same model until you choose.
  • The original beside the text gets wider or narrower when you drag its edge.
  • Smaller things. Shift+Enter starts a new line in a question on a passage, and a note scrolled out of sight comes back when you type in it. Thanks to @suhyungJang (#4, #5). textfold get uses the agent chosen in Settings (#6).

The Mac apps are signed and notarized by Apple. The Windows app is not signed yet. The first time you open it, Windows asks: choose More info, then Run anyway.

Already using TextFold 0.10.2 or later? The app offers this version by itself, or check from the menu (TextFold › Check for Updates… on a Mac, Help › Check for Updates… on Windows).

textfold serve has the same changes.
