2fip 0.2.9

Choose a tag to compare

@gonzaloism gonzaloism released this 16 Oct 01:22

What's new

  • Rubber-band selection: press on empty space in the list or grid view and drag a rectangle; every file and folder it touches is selected. Hold Ctrl to add to the current selection. A plain click on empty space clears the selection.
  • Readable selections: the text of selected files is now black or white, whichever contrasts with the theme's accent color. It was hard to read with light accents such as Monokai Pro, Matrix and Catppuccin Macchiato.

Downloads

  • 2fip-0.2.9-x86_64.flatpak — Flatpak bundle (updates from the chillalabs repository afterwards)
  • 2fip-0.2.9-x86_64.AppImage — make it executable and run it
  • 2fip-0.2.9-x86_64.tar.gz — unpack and run ./install.sh

Or install from the Flatpak repository: https://chillalabs.github.io/flatpak/

Windows

Windows support is experimental and is not an official release target yet. The Windows Actions workflow builds a temporary test executable for evaluation; this release does not include a Windows installer.

What's new

Folder Size for a whole drive

  • With nothing selected, Folder Size analyzes the folder the panel shows, so a whole drive can be analyzed from / (or C:\ on Windows).
  • A bar at the top shows the drive's used, total and free space.
  • Sizes are the space on disk, like du: hard-linked files (common in Flatpak's storage) count once.
  • The scan stays on one drive: it doesn't go into other disks, network shares or system folders like /proc.
  • At the top of a drive, "Not counted" shows the used space 2fip couldn't see (system files you can't read, file system data), and how many folders couldn't be read.
  • Progress while scanning, with a Cancel button.
  • In the Flatpak, / means the computer's root (its /usr and /etc come from /run/host).

@gonzaloism gonzaloism released this 15 Oct 16:25

What's new

  • Shift+F6 renames the selected file or folder, as in Total Commander. F2 still renames, and F6 alone still moves files to the other panel.

2fip 0.2.6

@gonzaloism gonzaloism released this 15 Oct 15:58

What's new

  • View in Listbox: a new button in Find Files (Ctrl+F) opens all search results as a tab in the active panel, like Total Commander's "Feed to listbox". Each file is shown with its path relative to the searched folder, and you can open, view, copy, move, rename or delete them as in any folder. Opening a folder or going up leaves the results.
  • Nothing can be copied, moved, pasted or dropped into a results tab.

Downloads

  • 2fip-0.2.6-x86_64.flatpak — Flatpak bundle (updates from the chillalabs repository afterwards)

2fip 0.2.5

@gonzaloism gonzaloism released this 15 Oct 13:39

What's new

  • Smaller text: File name size goes from Medium (14 px) down to Tiny (10 px). Rows, icons and padding shrink with the text, in the file lists and in the Folder Size panel.
  • Windows color theme: the Windows look is now a color theme in Settings → Theme, instead of a separate checkbox (an enabled checkbox becomes the Windows theme).
  • Folder icons of 2fip's own icon sets line up with the file names.
  • Faster Folder Size: folders are scanned on all CPU cores (about 3.5× faster on a home folder with 1.7 million files), the panel no longer freezes while the mouse moves over the chart, and an expanded folder shows its 500 largest entries plus a "… N more" row.

Downloads

  • 2fip-0.2.5-x86_64.flatpak — Flatpak bundle (updates from the chillalabs repository afterwards)
  • 2fip-0.2.5-x86_64.AppImage — make it executable and run it

@gonzaloism gonzaloism released this 15 Oct 01:36

What's new since 0.2.1

  • Panels refresh themselves: folders reload automatically when their contents change on disk (no polling), and switching panes or returning to the window refreshes the active folder.
  • Fixed: the automatic refresh no longer runs in a loop that could steal the keyboard focus.
  • Fixed: tooltip text always contrasts with its background, so tooltips are readable in the light theme.

@gonzaloism gonzaloism released this 12 Oct 01:46

What's new

  • Rename a conflicting destination during copy or move instead of only replacing or skipping it.
  • Add an optional Windows-like appearance in Settings, with a blue accent and light-gray surfaces.
  • Continue Windows compatibility work, including Explorer integration, file icons, drive handling, and per-tab column resizing.

Servers, saved connections, new icon styles and a user's guide.

What's new

  • Servers: browse SFTP, FTP and FTPS folders in a panel and copy, move, rename and delete there like local ones, with byte progress. Copy between two servers too. Press Ctrl+K (File → Connect to server). 2fip connects by itself, without system mounts, so it works the same on every distribution, in the Flatpak and in the AppImage.
    • SFTP logs in with your SSH agent, your ~/.ssh keys or a password, and checks ~/.ssh/known_hosts (new servers show their fingerprint first).
    • Files opened from a server (Enter, F3, F4, Open with) are downloaded to a local copy first.
  • Connections panel (header button): saved connections with their status, and Open, Reconnect, Disconnect, Edit and Delete. Passwords can be stored in the system keyring (GNOME Keyring, KWallet), never in 2fip's files. Connections close by themselves when no tab shows them.
  • Delete permanently without the trash: Shift+Delete or Shift+F8, after a warning.
  • Tabs: drag a tab to the other panel to open a copy there; double-click the empty space beside the tabs for a new tab; middle-click closes a tab.
  • Help menu with a new online user's guide (F1). About moved here.
  • New icon styles: Vivid, Windows style and macOS style, drawn by 2fip so they look the same on every system.

The source repository is now chillalabs/twofip (old links redirect).
