Servers, saved connections, new icon styles and a user's guide.

What's new

  • Servers: browse SFTP, FTP and FTPS folders in a panel and copy, move, rename and delete there like local ones, with byte progress. Copy between two servers too. Press Ctrl+K (File → Connect to server). 2fip connects by itself, without system mounts, so it works the same on every distribution, in the Flatpak and in the AppImage.
    • SFTP logs in with your SSH agent, your ~/.ssh keys or a password, and checks ~/.ssh/known_hosts (new servers show their fingerprint first).
    • Files opened from a server (Enter, F3, F4, Open with) are downloaded to a local copy first.
  • Connections panel (header button): saved connections with their status, and Open, Reconnect, Disconnect, Edit and Delete. Passwords can be stored in the system keyring (GNOME Keyring, KWallet), never in 2fip's files. Connections close by themselves when no tab shows them.
  • Delete permanently without the trash: Shift+Delete or Shift+F8, after a warning.
  • Tabs: drag a tab to the other panel to open a copy there; double-click the empty space beside the tabs for a new tab; middle-click closes a tab.
  • Help menu with a new online user's guide (F1). About moved here.
  • New icon styles: Vivid, Windows style and macOS style, drawn by 2fip so they look the same on every system.

The source repository is now chillalabs/twofip (old links redirect).

Install or update

Flatpak (with updates):

flatpak install --user https://chillalabs.github.io/flatpak/2fip.flatpakref

Already installed? flatpak update gets 0.2.0.

AppImage: download 2fip-0.2.0-x86_64.AppImage, chmod +x it and run it.

Without Flatpak or AppImage: download 2fip-0.2.0-x86_64.tar.gz, unpack it and run ./install.sh.

The AppImage and the .tar.gz need glibc 2.39 or newer (e.g. Pop!_OS / Ubuntu 24.04, Fedora 40+).
