Initial public release. Cramdex is built around studying SANS courses and preparing a GIAC-style index for open-book certification exams, while never containing any course material itself: you bring your own books.

Highlights

  • Course packs: point the guided wizard (./setup.sh) at the SANS book PDFs you own; packs live under ~/.cramdex/courses/<slug>/, outside the repo. Encrypted PDFs are supported with a validated password prompt (stored 0600, or supplied via CRAMDEX_PDF_PASSWORD).
  • Try it in two minutes: ./setup.sh --demo builds a complete fictional demo course (MOON-101) so every feature works with nothing real in it.
  • Study tools: page-image book reader with reading progress, ranked full-text search (SQLite FTS5) with printed-page citations, flashcard quizzes with per-topic mastery, and grounded Ask over your corpus.
  • Exam index builder: capture terms from search, the reader, or the page viewer; extracted-term and AI-assisted suggestions with explicit per-entry approval; alphabetical manage view with per-book colors and duplicate warnings; print view for the physical exam copy; CSV/JSON export and JSON import.
  • Pluggable LLM providers: Claude CLI (default), Anthropic API, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM). API keys are read from environment variables only.
  • Multi-course: add more packs any time and switch courses from the sidebar.
