Coco Voice is a rebranded fork of the open-source Handy dictation app (MIT). The original license is retained.

What's new

• Permissions now survive updates. Coco Voice is now signed with a stable Coco Research code-signing certificate instead of an ad-hoc signature. macOS ties your Accessibility grant to the certificate rather than to each build's fingerprint, so you no longer have to re-enable Accessibility after every update.
• One-time re-grant on this version. Because 0.9.4 changes the signing identity (ad-hoc → certificate), macOS will ask you to grant Accessibility once more when you land on 0.9.4. After that, it sticks across future updates.

To re-grant: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → enable Coco Voice, then quit and reopen the app.

Notes

• The app is signed with a self-signed certificate, not Apple-notarized, so the first-launch Gatekeeper step is unchanged (the installer handles it). Notarization would remove that too but requires a paid Apple Developer account.
• This build was produced on a Command Line Tools-only toolchain, so the Apple Intelligence post-processing provider is still compiled as a stub; the deterministic correction dictionary is unaffected.

If you're on 0.9.2, this update installs itself — this is the first release that exercises the auto-update pipeline end to end.

What's new

• Smarter auto-learn corrections (F2). When you edit a transcription in History, the learned correction now keys off the post-processed text you actually saw — not the raw transcript — so learned pairs reliably match what gets applied on future dictations.
• Redesigned spoken corrections (F3). The old version guessed at corrections from keywords ("no", "actually", …) and pasted the fix after your text. It's now an explicit hotkey: assign a key to Speak Correction in Settings → Post Process → Iterative Correction, press it, and speak your correction — it replaces the last dictation instead of appending. No more false-triggers on normal speech, no more double-paste. Ships enabled but with no key assigned, so nothing changes until you bind one.
• Upgrade safety. Older settings stores that used the legacy coco_keys value now parse correctly, so your settings survive the update.

Known limitations (honest notes)

• This build was produced on a Command Line Tools-only toolchain, so the Apple Intelligence post-processing provider is compiled as a stub and does not perform live LLM cleanup in this artifact. The deterministic correction dictionary is unaffected.
• The F3 replace behavior (backspacing the previous text, then pasting) is new and best-effort; it works from wherever your cursor sits right after a dictation. Verify it in your editor of choice.

First Coco Research signed release with working in-app auto-update. From this version onward, Coco Voice can update itself: future signed releases published here will be offered and installed automatically from within the app.

That downloads this release, installs it to Applications, clears the Gatekeeper flag, and launches it. Prefer not to use Terminal? Download Install Coco Voice.command below and double-click it (if macOS blocks it, right-click → Open → Open). Or install the DMG manually and see INSTALL.md for the one-time xattr step.

This is a one-time-per-machine step because the app is ad-hoc signed rather than Apple-notarized. After the first install, updates install themselves silently. Note: the previously distributed 0.9.1 build used a different signing key and cannot auto-update to this release — install 0.9.2 once by hand, and subsequent releases update in place.
