Yes. Maplat is licensed under Apache License 2.0, which permits commercial use, modification, and redistribution. The patent grant (Patent No. 6684776) is included. See the README License section for details.
MaplatEditor is a desktop
application (data creation tool). It is not published to npm (private: true
in its package.json), but you can obtain binaries from the GitHub Releases
page.
Versions before 0.12.2 were published under the "Maplat Limited License 1.1" (a restricted license). Starting from 0.12.2, Maplat has reverted to Apache License 2.0. Note that npmjs.com still shows the restricted license notation for past versions — this is an npm display limitation, not a current licensing issue. See known-discrepancies for details.
Yes. You can use Maplat via CDN or npm (@maplat/ui), and place map data
created with MaplatEditor into your application. See
Tutorials and the README Quick Start
section for details.
The demo at s.maplat.jp/r/hiroshimamap/ is a known issue
(known-discrepancies E.1).
It is scheduled to be fixed before the FOSS4G 2026 conference period. During
the conference, the latest demo will be available at the Code for History
booth.
