Hikari AdBlock v1.2.3
Hikari AdBlock — free, open-source, no-root Android ad blocker.
What's new in v1.2.3
Shizuku mode now fails fast and tells you why
- Added a clear error dialog for Shizuku mode. If your ROM and kernel deny
permission foriptables/nftables, Shizuku mode can't work on your device.
Previously the app could sit on "Connecting..." and silently retry for a very
long time before giving up with no real explanation. It now detects the block
immediately and explains exactly what happened. - One-tap "Switch to Direct (VPN) mode". The blocked dialog now has a button
that switches you straight to Direct (VPN) mode and starts protection, so you
still get ad blocking even when Shizuku is unavailable on your ROM. - Added a pre-flight probe. When you select Shizuku mode, the app now runs a
single cheap, read-only netfilter command first. If the ROM/kernel refuses it,
you're told right away and the service is never started, so no filters are
fetched and no retry loop runs.
Under the hood
- The pre-flight probe is used from the Settings toggle, from the power-button
toggle, and when a pending Shizuku start is retried after returning to the app.
The service also runs the same probe as a safety net. - Filters are loaded exactly once before the retry loop, so retries no longer
re-fetch or re-seed the filter lists. - Bumped the version to 1.2.3 (versionCode 7).
If your ROM and kernel deny
iptablespermission, Shizuku mode cannot work on
your device. Use Direct (VPN) mode (the dialog can switch you over with one
tap) or the root backend instead.

Hikari AdBlock v1.2.2
Hikari AdBlock — free, open-source, no-root Android ad blocker.
Fixed — Shizuku mode now enables in the release build
The Shizuku fix from 1.2.1 was present in the code but did not actually work once installed as a release APK. Root cause: on Android 12+, showing the Shizuku permission dialog moves the app to the background, and the app then tried to start its foreground service from that background state. Android silently refuses that start, so even after tapping Allow the mode stayed off. (The debug build only appeared to work because Shizuku permission was already granted on the dev device, so the dialog never appeared.)
- The Shizuku service is now started before the permission dialog is shown, while the app is still in the foreground, and waits for the grant before applying rules.
- If the start is still refused, it is automatically retried when the app returns to the foreground.
- The permission flow polls Shizuku directly, so forks (e.g. Shevery) that never deliver the result callback still work.
- Added the missing R8/ProGuard keeps for the Shizuku/Sui classes and Parcelable creators (a classic "works in debug, breaks in release" cause).
- A refused foreground-service start can no longer crash the app.
If Shizuku mode still does not turn on after this update, try tapping the toggle once more after granting permission, and share the in-app logs so we can dig further.

✨ What's new in v1.2.1
🐛 Fixes
- Shizuku mode stuck on "Connecting" — fixed. The permission grant is now handled reliably and shell commands have proper timeouts, so the proxy starts instead of hanging.
- Shizuku mode not turning on — fixed. iptables setup via Shizuku now works consistently, without root and without the VPN icon.
✨ New
- In-app update dialog — when a new release is published, Hikari AdBlock shows an update prompt with an update icon and the changelog. Tap Update now to download and install directly in the app, or Release page to download it manually from GitHub.
