New: message a student directly from their card

You can now reach out to a student straight from their card on the classroom's Students tab — no need to dig up their email address or open Teams yourself first.

Look for the small message icon just before the student's GitHub username:

Click it, and CodeHub opens either your default email app (mailto:) or Microsoft Teams with a chat ready to go, depending on which communication service you've configured.

Turning it on

Two settings need to be in place before the icon shows up:

  1. Settings → Student Identification — check Email, so student email addresses are captured and stored.
  2. Settings → Communication Service — turn on Enable a communication service and pick a Provider (Email or Microsoft Teams).

The icon only appears on a student's card once that student actually has an email on file. If it's missing, add it from the roster editor (their classroom's Students tab → Edit roster).
