Getting Started
Each option on its own is understandable. Several overworld options at once get confusing very quickly. For a first seed, add one overworld idea to a ruleset you already know how to play.
For that first seed, turn on only one of these:
- Layout Shuffle
- Tile Flip (Mixed)
- Crossed
Flute Shuffle can be added to either recommendation below. So can the entrance and door settings you already know.
Tile Flip (Mixed) is the easier overworld mode. A normal map tracker is enough to follow it.
- Set Layout Shuffle to Vanilla.
- Leave Crossed on None.
- Leave Whirlpool Shuffle off.
- Leave Flute Shuffle and Bonk Drops off for this first look.
Layout Shuffle set to Grid, with Keep Worlds Parallel checked, is the original overworld mode. It asks more of you than Tile Flip. You will walk the overworld a lot, so start with the Pegasus Boots, or with Pseudoboots.
- Leave Tile Flip (Mixed) off.
- Leave Crossed on None.
- Turn Whirlpool Shuffle on.
- Turn Keep Similar Edges Together on.
- Set Flute Shuffle to Balanced.
- Leave Free Terrain off for the first run. Turn it on for a later one.
- Leave Bonk Drops off until the layout feels familiar. Those checks sit on screens you will already be visiting.
When one of those seeds feels comfortable, read Overworld before you combine Layout Shuffle, Tile Flip, and Crossed. Trackers says which tracker can follow a shuffled layout.
