Items and Extras

These settings are on the Items tab, except prizes and dungeon keys, which are on Dungeons.

Followers

Followers shuffles the companions.

  • Princess Zelda
  • Old Man
  • Blind's maiden
  • The frog, who is the blacksmith's partner
  • The locksmith who frees the purple chest
  • Kiki
  • The purple chest
  • The super bomb

You still meet the original requirement of the spot. If the frog is in the bomb shop, you still need crystals 5 and 6 and 100 rupees. The purple chest is still turned in at its usual place. The locksmith follows you once his sign is removed.

You can mirror, flute, save and quit, die, pick up a crystal, enter a dungeon, and finish the digging game while a follower is with you. If a second follower blocks a narrow path, walk into that follower to swap. Leave the screen and the swap is gone. You would have to go back to where you found the first one.

A customizer file can put a follower in your starting inventory. That follower stays until that follower's own errand is done. See More Detail.

Bonk Drops

Bonk Drops adds 42 checks. They are the trees, rocks, and statues that drop a fixed item in the original game: 33 trees, 6 rocks, and 2 statues. One rock drops two items. Eight of the trees are available after Agahnim 1. The statue by the Ice Rod cave is one of the two statues.

Bonk them with the Pegasus Boots, or use the Quake Medallion. One of them is always a full magic jar. Some of them can be farmed, and the collection count goes up once. Bonk trees use the alternate tree color. Rocks and statues do not change color.

The pool added for these checks is 15 fairies, 8 apples, 6 bee traps, 3 red rupees, 3 blue rupees, 2 bombs, 2 hearts, 1 full magic jar, 1 pack of 8 bombs, and 1 good bee.

The bonk map marks every spot. A green square is a spot that opens after Agahnim 1. CodeTracker can show these checks when the option is on.

Shops and extra checks

Shopsanity puts shop slots into the main item pool. A shop can hold a progression item, and a normal chest can hold what used to be a shop item. Retro adds more shop slots. Prices and the shop list are linked from More Detail.

Pottery turns pots, and some large blocks, into real checks. The names on the dropdown say how many.

  • None leaves pots as they are.
  • Key Pots adds the pots that held keys.
  • Cave Pots adds pots that are not in dungeons, including the block in Spike Cave.
  • Cave+Key Pots adds both of those.
  • Reduced Dungeon Pots (Dynamic) adds about a quarter of the dungeon pots, and colors the chosen pots.
  • Clustered Dungeon Pots (Dynamic) groups dungeon pots and uses about half of them, and colors the chosen pots.
  • Excludes Empty Pots adds every pot that had something under it.
  • Dungeon Pots adds the pots inside dungeons.
  • Lottery (All Pots and Large Blocks) adds all of them.

Colorize Randomized Pots recolors the pots that became checks. The two dynamic pottery modes force this on.

Enemy Drops changes what a killed enemy can hold.

  • None leaves drops alone.
  • Small Key Enemies puts key-dropping enemies into the pool, including the Hyrule Castle big key drop.
  • Underworld Enemies lets killable underworld enemies hold items. A blue square marks a room that still has a drop left.

Pot Shuffle (Legacy) and Enable Key Drop Shuffle (Legacy) are older controls. The Pottery and Enemy Drops dropdowns are the ones to use.

Take Any Caves adds the Zelda 1 caves where you pick one of three items.

  • None leaves them out.
  • Random replaces a random set of unimportant caves.
  • Fixed replaces the Desert healer fairy, the Swamp healer fairy, the Dark Death Mountain healer fairy, the Dark Lake Hylia ledge healer fairy, and the dark bonk fairy.

Item behavior

Bow Mode chooses how the bow enters the pool. Progressive is the usual pair of bows, bow first and silver arrows second. Silvers Separate puts the bow and the silver arrows in as two items. Retro (Progressive) makes arrows cost rupees, and you need a single-arrow item before you can shoot. Retro + Silvers does that with silver arrows as their own item.

Flute Mode is Normal or Pre-Activated. Normal still needs the bird woken at the village. Pre-Activated lets you fly as soon as you find the flute. Inverted already wakes the flute for you. That is listed on World and Goals.

Bombbag starts you with no bomb capacity. Two bomb-capacity upgrades are in the pool. Bombs do nothing until you find one.

Pseudoboots lets you dash before you find the Pegasus Boots. Dash-opened doors and certain rocks still need the real boots. Hovering and water walking still need the real boots.

Mirror Scroll starts you with a mirror that works inside dungeons only. Overworld mirror spots still need the real mirror. Door shuffle also gives you this scroll. That case is on Dungeons.

Beemizer replaces some junk with bee traps. No Bee Traps leaves the pool alone.

Item Fill chooses how items are spread. Balanced is the usual choice. Vanilla Fill tries original chests first. Major Location Restriction prefers the original major-item chests. Dungeon Restriction prefers dungeon chests. District Restriction picks some districts and puts the major items there. A single green rupee marks a chosen district.

Forbidden Boss Items limits what a boss can hold. None allows anything. Map & Compass is supposed to keep the map and compass off the boss until you could have needed them. The door-randomizer notes still flag that choice as unreliable. Map & Compass & Keys does the same for that dungeon's keys. Small key shuffle and big key shuffle override that key limit.
