Cosmetic Inventory
Applies to all versions. The legacy NeoForge 26.2 betas use an older layout (see the note at the end).
Two small buttons are added to the survival inventory (E). Their positions can be changed or the buttons hidden in the Configuration.
| Button | Size | Default position* | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cosmetic armor | 10×10 | 75, 50 (bottom-right corner of the player preview) | Opens the cosmetic inventory. On the cosmetic inventory the same button reads Close and takes you back to the normal inventory. |
| Rendering toggle | 5×5 | 77, 45 (just above the cosmetic armor button) | Turns the drawing of all cosmetic armor on or off, for every player, on your client only. Useful for PvP. |
* Pixels from the top-left corner of the inventory window.
The rendering toggle is not saved: it is switched back on when you leave the world or server.
In the creative inventory a cosmetic armor button (10×10, default position 95, 38) appears on the Survival Inventory tab only.
The screen has the same shape as the survival inventory:
- Left column: your real armor (head, chest, legs, feet), and the off-hand slot.
- Player preview: shows you as other players see you.
- Cosmetic slots: a row of four slots under the preview, from left to right head, chest, legs, feet. A slot only accepts items that can be worn in that slot (armor, elytra, carved pumpkins, mob heads, items from other mods that equip in that slot…).
- 2×2 crafting grid and result slot, like the survival inventory.
-
Recipe book: hidden by default; enable it with
CosArmorDisableRecipeBook = false. - Your main inventory and hotbar.
Every cosmetic slot has a tiny 5×5 toggle in its top-left corner:
| Toggle state | Tooltip (26.x) | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Off (default) | Showing armor | The cosmetic item is drawn if the slot has one; otherwise your real armor is drawn. |
| On | Showing skin | Nothing is drawn for that slot, not even your real armor: your skin shows. |
Skin toggles are saved with the cosmetic items and every player sees them.
For each of the four armor slots, the player model draws, in this order of priority:
- nothing, if the slot's skin toggle is on;
- the cosmetic item, if the cosmetic slot is not empty;
- the real armor.
Only the drawing changes. Protection, enchantments, durability and every other effect always come from the real armor.
The Open Cosmetic Armor Inventory key (in Controls → Inventory) opens the cosmetic inventory when no other screen is open.
| Build | Default key |
|---|---|
| 1.21.1 (NeoForge and Fabric) | Not bound |
| 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3 and the legacy 26.2 betas | Left Alt |
The NeoForge 26.2.0.32, 26.2.0.37 and 26.2.0.45 betas use an older interface:
- The cosmetic armor button is 20×20 at 76, 7, and the creative button is 60×12 at 127, 7. Width and height of every button are configurable.
- The rendering toggle is hidden by default (
CosArmorToggleButton_Hidden = true). - The skin toggles have their own position, spacing and size options (
SkinArmorToggle_*). - The cosmetic inventory is closed with a dedicated ✕ button and has its own player preview.
See Configuration for the full list of legacy options.
