Getting Started
Applies to Carry Mechanics across all supported versions.
| Minecraft | 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1.2 or 26.2 |
| Loader | NeoForge, Fabric or Forge |
| Required mods | none |
No dependencies at all.
Drop the JAR in mods/. Nothing to configure to make it work.
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Pick up | Hold Left Shift and right-click |
| Place | Right-click on any surface |
| Stack an entity | Right-click a carried entity onto a target |
Left Shift, not right Shift. That detail catches people out.
Blocks with tile entities — chests, furnaces, spawners, and anything else that holds data — picked up without being broken, contents and all.
Entities — animals, villagers and other mobs.
Whether a specific thing is carryable comes from datapack tags rather than only the config, so a modpack can decide. See Tags.
Heavier objects slow you down, and the multiplier is configurable per type — blocks and entities have separate settings. See Configuration.
/carrymechanics debug |
Show current carry data |
/carrymechanics clear [player] |
Deletes what you are carrying — it is not placed |
/carrymechanics place [player] |
Place the carried object at the player's position |
clear destroys the carried block or entity rather than dropping it. If you are carrying a chest
with items in it, that deletes the chest and its contents. Use place to put it down safely.
Full detail on Commands.
In the mod's config screen, or directly in:
config/carry_mechanics-common.toml
25+ options, all documented in Configuration. Nothing needs changing.
Beyond tags, Carry Mechanics supports datapack-driven scripts with conditions and custom commands — so behaviour can be conditioned on game state rather than only on item identity. That is the most powerful part of the mod and the least obvious — datapack JSON with commands that fire when an object is picked up, while it is carried, and when it is put down. See Scripts.
Remove the JAR. Nothing is stored in saves and no blocks or items are added.
One thing to be careful about: anything you are carrying when you remove the mod is gone with it. Drop what you are holding first.
This mod spans an unusually wide range — 1.20.1 through 26.2, across three loaders. See Compatibility for what that means, including the Forge branch being a beta.
