Hush is now the only app you need. No Shizuku, no root, no computer: Hush pairs with Android's Wireless debugging by itself and starts its own small helper. Setup takes about two minutes, once. Watch the setup video.
Added
- One app. Pair once by typing a six-digit code into Hush's notification. Hush's helper answers only Hush and can do only the few things skipping needs (Android 11+; Wi-Fi is needed only to pair and to start the helper, skipping also works on mobile data).
- Looks after itself. If the helper stops, Hush starts it again. If it can't, ads are muted and one "Skipping paused" notification says why; a tap resumes, and without Wi-Fi Hush tries again by itself as soon as Wi-Fi is back.
- Restart automatically after a reboot (optional, Android 13+). Hush tests once whether your phone keeps its helper running with Wireless debugging off, and keeps it off if so. USB debugging and Developer options are never touched.
- Copy diagnostics for bug reports, and bug report forms on GitHub.
Changed
- Faster. Spotify is stopped 30 to 90 ms after an ad is detected (was 50 to 105 ms), and music is back after 1.4 to 2.3 s of silence on real ads (was 2.2 to 2.8 s).
- The DNS filter (Block ad servers) is off for new installs: skipping doesn't need it, and setup no longer asks for VPN permission. Updating keeps your setting.
Fixed
- New in 2.0.2:
- With Block ad servers on, Spotify could hang and not load songs or album art on networks that block DNS to outside servers, such as a router running AdGuard Home or Pi-hole. Hush now also asks the network's own DNS when its resolver doesn't answer.
- The DNS filter handles more lookups at once, for quick song skipping.
- Edited DNS rules now take effect right away.
- In 2.0.1:
- Switching to another playlist could bring you back to the previous one, when an ad came before the new playlist's first song.
- With the sleep timer set to End of song, an ad right after the song was skipped and the next song played. Hush now pauses as expected.
- If the helper stopped while you weren't on Wi-Fi, skipping stayed paused after Wi-Fi came back. Hush now resumes by itself.
- Pairing: the Pair button could stay disabled while Hush searched for the code dialog. It now stays available, and the search retries by itself.
- After pairing, opening Hush from its icon could show the Settings page instead of Hush.
- A brief connection hiccup right after Wireless debugging was switched on could make Hush ask to pair again.
- The Developer options step of the setup never got ticked on newer Android versions.
- Custom sleep timer ignored a number typed into the fields if Start was pressed right away.
- Pressing play within about 4 seconds after the sleep timer paused Spotify could be undone by Hush.
Updating
- From 2.0.x: install Hush-2.0.2.apk over the existing app; your settings and pairing are kept.
- From 1.0.x: install it over the existing app; your settings and permissions are kept, and skipping keeps working through Shizuku. To drop Shizuku, tap Set up next to Skip without Shizuku in Hush, pair once, then uninstall Shizuku.
