Hush 2.0.2
Hush is now the only app you need. No Shizuku, no root, no computer: Hush pairs with Android's Wireless debugging by itself and starts its own small helper. Setup takes about two minutes, once. Watch the setup video.
Added
- One app. Pair once by typing a six-digit code into Hush's notification. Hush's helper answers only Hush and can do only the few things skipping needs (Android 11+; Wi-Fi is needed only to pair and to start the helper, skipping also works on mobile data).
- Looks after itself. If the helper stops, Hush starts it again. If it can't, ads are muted and one "Skipping paused" notification says why; a tap resumes, and without Wi-Fi Hush tries again by itself as soon as Wi-Fi is back.
- Restart automatically after a reboot (optional, Android 13+). Hush tests once whether your phone keeps its helper running with Wireless debugging off, and keeps it off if so. USB debugging and Developer options are never touched.
- Copy diagnostics for bug reports, and bug report forms on GitHub.
Changed
- Faster. Spotify is stopped 30 to 90 ms after an ad is detected (was 50 to 105 ms), and music is back after 1.4 to 2.3 s of silence on real ads (was 2.2 to 2.8 s).
- The DNS filter (Block ad servers) is off for new installs: skipping doesn't need it, and setup no longer asks for VPN permission. Updating keeps your setting.
Fixed
- New in 2.0.2:
- With Block ad servers on, Spotify could hang and not load songs or album art on networks that block DNS to outside servers, such as a router running AdGuard Home or Pi-hole. Hush now also asks the network's own DNS when its resolver doesn't answer.
- The DNS filter handles more lookups at once, for quick song skipping.
- Edited DNS rules now take effect right away.
- In 2.0.1:
- Switching to another playlist could bring you back to the previous one, when an ad came before the new playlist's first song.
- With the sleep timer set to End of song, an ad right after the song was skipped and the next song played. Hush now pauses as expected.
- If the helper stopped while you weren't on Wi-Fi, skipping stayed paused after Wi-Fi came back. Hush now resumes by itself.
- Pairing: the Pair button could stay disabled while Hush searched for the code dialog. It now stays available, and the search retries by itself.
- After pairing, opening Hush from its icon could show the Settings page instead of Hush.
- A brief connection hiccup right after Wireless debugging was switched on could make Hush ask to pair again.
- The Developer options step of the setup never got ticked on newer Android versions.
- Custom sleep timer ignored a number typed into the fields if Start was pressed right away.
- Pressing play within about 4 seconds after the sleep timer paused Spotify could be undone by Hush.
Updating
- From 2.0.x: install Hush-2.0.2.apk over the existing app; your settings and pairing are kept.
- From 1.0.x: install it over the existing app; your settings and permissions are kept, and skipping keeps working through Shizuku. To drop Shizuku, tap Set up next to Skip without Shizuku in Hush, pair once, then uninstall Shizuku.

Hush 1.0.3
Changed
- Spotify no longer pops up during a skip. When Spotify is in the background, Hush now starts it the way a headset play button does, so it resumes on its own and whatever you were doing stays in front. If you are in Spotify, it is reopened in the same moment.
- Lock-screen controls come back right away. Spotify's notification and media controls return about 1 second after a skip instead of about 20 seconds.
- Faster skips. Ads are stopped within about 0.1 s of being detected, usually before you hear them, and music is back after about 2 to 3 seconds of silence (it was 3 to 5).
Added
- Custom sleep timer: any time from 1 second to 23 h 59 min 59 s. Long timers don't keep your phone awake until their last hour.
Fixed
- "End of song" could leave Spotify stuck loading the next song, so pressing play did nothing until you skipped. It now ends properly paused.
- Pressing play right after the sleep timer paused Spotify could be undone by Hush.
Update by installing Hush-1.0.3.apk over the existing app; your settings and permissions are kept.

Hush 1.0.2
Fixed
- Music no longer stops a while after a skip. Sometimes, after a skip, the sound stopped although Spotify still showed the song as playing, and it came back only on its own or after opening Spotify. Android was freezing the restarted Spotify as an idle background app. Hush now keeps the restarted Spotify process from being frozen (Android 14 and later).
Changed
- Music comes back a little sooner: play is pressed the moment Spotify is ready, and setup work now overlaps Spotify's start.
- The "music back in" time is now when the music actually started.
- Slow or failed skips show their timeline in the activity log, which makes bug reports much easier to act on.

Hush 1.0.1
Fixed
- No more silence after a skip with the phone locked. On Android 15 and later, music could go quiet about 10 seconds after a skip, and with the phone locked it stayed silent until the phone was unlocked. Android mutes media apps that play from the background before they register their playback service; Hush now allows background audio for Spotify while Hush is on, and restores Android's default when Hush is turned off.
Changed
- Removed the 1.0.0 workaround that briefly brought Spotify to the front after a skip.

Hush 1.0.0
First public release.
Highlights
- Skips Spotify ad breaks by restarting Spotify in the background; music is back in about 4 seconds.
- Catches every ad, including the first ad of a multi-ad break, using Spotify's ad ID and the standard advertisement flag.
- Leaves your phone alone: no screen wake-ups, a locked phone stays locked, the app you are using stays in front.
- Keeps your place: switches back to your playlist or album if Spotify resumes somewhere else.
- Sleep timer (5 minutes to 1 hour, or end of song) that survives ad skips.
- Guided Shizuku setup, mute mode, and automatic muting with a reminder when Shizuku is not running.
- Spotify-only DNS filter for video ads and ad-related freezes.
Install
Download Hush-1.0.0.apk below, open it, then follow the setup in the app. Requires Android 8.0+, Spotify and Shizuku.
Known issues
- A short audio gap can occur about 10 seconds after a skip while Android re-classifies the restarted Spotify as a background-playback app. Hush repairs it automatically; a complete fix is planned for 1.0.1.
