Test and Introduction Level

Explanation

This level is designed to introduce the player to the game, as well as test all of the core mechanics. It includes, in order of introduction:

  • moving left and right
  • jumping
  • vertical wrapping
  • changing the view to vertical scrolling
  • horiontal wrapping
  • spikes
  • changing the view (back) to horizontal scrolling
  • changing gravity up
  • showing that wrapping works the same regardless of gravity
  • changing the gravity (back) down
  • changing the gravity left
  • moving up and down
  • collecting extra health
  • changing the gravity right
  • collecting keys
  • unlocking doors
  • finishing a level

Many of these things should probably have some sort of explanation in-game, such as a signpost that shows an instructional pop-up when the player stands on it. I did not include these in this mockup.

Level Layout

Scrolling Views

View items are colored to correspond with the view outlines. Green is the initial view, and uses horizontal scrolling.

Path Through Level

The path starts at the player marker and ends at the exclamation point. Wrapping is indicated by letter pairs, going from capital to lower case.
