Release 2
Description:
This release represents sprints 3 & 4 for the Kiewit Garage Studio Manager project. The majority of this time was spent on developing and implementing all user stories from the Initial Config feature and the User Creation Overhaul feature along with integrating TravisCI for CI/CD. Below, you'll find detailed information about each feature.
Features Included in This Release:
Initial Config
Work Completed:
- 24-hour Reservation
- Changed reservable times for certain pieces of equipment and resolved logic conflicts
- Show 24-hour Reservations
- Revised the reservation page to reflect reservation time
- Addition of NUID to users
- Altered existing user database table to add NUID
- Developed code logic to automatically retrieve NUID of a user if applicable
- Addition of new categories for events and alerts
Significance of Completed Work:
This initial config setup the basis for usage of the engineering garage in which students and faculty could use site specific features. This initial config also helped us analyze the code base to get a better understanding of the logic and connections between pieces of code.
User Creation Overhaul
Work Completed:
- Add User Agreement Expiration to Database
- Added a new attribute to the User table to represent User Agreement Expiration Date
- Add User Agreement
- Added a User Agreement section to new member sign up
- Add User Agreement Lockout
- When the User Agreement has expired, the website forces the user to the renewal page and does not allow for any other access to the website
- Add User Agreement Renewal Page
- Add User Agreement Read Only Page
- Added a link within the My Account page to view the User Agreements
Additional Notes:
- There was an additional feature for adding timeless events that is used for new member signup but doesn't fit fully into the User Creation Overhaul feature
Significance of Completed Work:
The User Creation Overhaul allows for Engineering Garage specific sign ups and account attributes with the most significant addition being the User Agreement and all of its sub-stories. This makes it so that Garage Studio users must agree to terms of usage for the garage area and tools and provides general rules.
TravisCI
Work Completed:
- TravisCI runs static code analysis on every push to development
- TravisCI runs unit tests on every push to development
- Developers are notified of a failing build
Significance of Completed Work:
Automated unit testing allows for preliminary checking of coding to ensure quality development. Any builds that fail are not pushed so that there is always a working build available.

Release 1
Description:
This release represents our first sprint for the Kiewit Garage project. The majority of this sprint was focused on setting up our development environment, which took up a significant portion of our time. Despite this, we successfully implemented three important features that improve functionality and branding consistency for the website. Below, you’ll find detailed information about each feature and how it fits into the overall project.
Features Included in This Release:
Hiding the Material Pricing Tab (Admin-only Access)
Work Completed:
We added a conditional check in the navigation.erb file to ensure that the "Material Pricing" tab is only visible to Admins or Innovation Studio users. This restricts access for non-admin users and improves security, ensuring sensitive information is only available to authorized users.
Significance of Completed Work:
This feature ensures that only authorized users can see the Material Pricing tab, protecting sensitive data while keeping the feature accessible to those who need it.
Additional Note:
This pull request also contains code related to Disable Parking due to shared dependencies.
Statistics:
Number of commits: 4 commits
Story points completed: 1 story point
Lines of code added/changed:
208 lines added
196 lines deleted
Tests added: No automated tests were added in this sprint.
Issue closed: Closes [Issue #144]
Disable Parking Section
Work Completed:
We modified several files (edit_user.erb, users.erb, me.erb, and new_member_signup.erb) to hide vehicle-related information from users who don’t have specific SS IDs. This ensures that only the right users can see and interact with vehicle-related details on the site, such as parking and vehicle registration.
Significance of Completed Work:
By limiting the visibility of parking-related data, we streamline the website for users who don’t need to see this information while adding a layer of security for those who should have access.
Additional Note:
While changes were made to new_member_signup.erb, we were unable to visually verify them due to limited access to that part of the website. The code is in place and will be reviewed when access becomes available.
Statistics:
Number of commits: 2 commits
Story points completed: 2 story points
Lines of code added/changed:
109 lines added
106 lines deleted
Tests added: No automated tests were added.
Issue closed: Closes [Issue #140]
Verify Page Copy Reflects Kiewit Garage
Work Completed:
We manually reviewed the entire Kiewit Garage website to ensure there were no remaining references to “NIU” anywhere in the text. This was a branding cleanup task to replace all instances of "NIU" with "Kiewit Garage."
Significance of Completed Work:
This was an important step to maintain consistent branding across the site, which helps avoid confusion and creates a professional, trustworthy appearance for users.
Statistics:
Number of commits: No code commits (manual task).
Story points completed: 1 story point
Lines of code added/changed: None
Tests added: Manual verification, no automated tests.
Additional Notes/Resources:
As mentioned, much of this sprint was focused on setting up the development environment, which reduced the time available for feature development. Now that the environment is fully configured, we expect to accelerate feature completion and implement automated testing in future sprints.
