First bowed release: the found-footage Backrooms walkthrough.

  • Five levels: Level 0 (yellow rooms), Level 1 (garage), Level 2 (steam tunnels with real pipes), Level 37 (Poolrooms), Level ! (the run).
  • GL renderer: per-panel point lighting, camcorder lens (auto-zoom, exposure, VHS), bloom, steam.
  • The wanderer: tank-model body/head camera, stimulus-driven senses (event hearing with occlusion and self-noise masking, sightline-gated zoom), feature-seeking exploration.
  • The Presence: stalk/lurk/hunt state machine, pacing director (~3 min average survival), darkness-wave hunts.
  • Verticality: mezzanines, staircases, lethal drops (impact-velocity deaths), tall atriums, crawlspaces.
  • World regenerates after every death — no rewinds.
  • macOS app attached (arm64, unsigned — right-click > Open the first time). Build from source on other platforms with ./build_app.sh.
