Tips & Best Practices

Getting Started

  • Start from a preset and modify — faster than from scratch
  • Save Design frequently — there's no auto-save
  • ⌘Z (Undo) is your friend — experiment freely

Shapes

  • SuperFormula is the most versatile shape — start with m (lobe count) then n1 (roundness)
  • Shape Morphing (Bottom → Top Shape) creates dramatic transformations
  • Shapes with thin lobes (Spirograph, Butterfly) look great in renders but need thick walls to print

Textures

  • The master Textures toggle is a global on/off — set up individual textures with it off, then flip on
  • Textures stack additively — 2–3 textures creates richness that one texture can't match
  • Great combos: Fluting + Simplex, Rods + Vertical Rods, Basket Weave + Wave Twist
  • SVG Pattern is the most powerful — try PatternMaker for seamless patterns designed for VaseMaker

Profile & Form

  • The Profile Curve has more impact on final look than almost anything else
  • Custom Twist creates dramatic spiral effects — a quarter to half turn is usually enough
  • Wave Twist + Fluting is a killer combination

Printing

  • Use Show Facets before exporting to check resolution is sufficient
  • Enable Smooth Inner when using deep textures to prevent thin walls
  • For display pieces: vase mode (wall thickness = 0) + high radial resolution

Image Capture

  • Use custom dimensions (2048×2048+) for high-quality portfolio shots
  • Rulers are hidden in captures automatically
  • Compose your shot after entering capture mode — orbit/zoom/pan all work through the frame
