First Time Setup

First-Time Setup

This is the phone-only setup. No computer needed. Perfect if you received the device as a gift.

Steps

1. Plug it in to any USB power — a phone charger, laptop, or power bank. (See the USB cable note if the screen stays black.)
2. It shows a title screen, then a SETUP screen with a Wi-Fi name.
3. On your phone, open Wi-Fi settings and join:
   • Network: StockTicker-Setup
   • Password: ticker123
4. A setup page should pop up automatically (like a hotel/airport Wi-Fi login).
   • If it doesn't, open a browser and go to http://192.168.4.1
5. Fill in the form:
   • Your home Wi-Fi name + password
   • The stocks you want (comma-separated, e.g. MSFT,GME,VCX,GOOGL)
   • Optional: a boot title, orientation, brightness, etc. (see Settings Reference)
6. Tap Save & Reboot.
7. The device reconnects to your home Wi-Fi and starts showing live prices. 🎉

Tips

• Use your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network if you have a choice — the board is 2.4GHz.
• Wi-Fi name and password are case-sensitive.
• If your phone keeps jumping back to your home Wi-Fi during setup, temporarily turn off mobile data and forget/disable auto-join so it stays on StockTicker-Setup long enough to load the page.

Changing settings later

Once it's online you don't need the hotspot again:

1. Tap the BOOT button to wake the screen, tap again for the CONFIG screen.
2. The CONFIG screen shows the device's IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.42).
3. On a phone/computer on the same Wi-Fi, open http://<that-IP>.
