@deepakk33 deepakk33 released this 15 Oct 09:22

What's new

Water reminders — optional, off by default. Enable in Preferences to get a gentle nudge to drink water every 45 minutes (configurable). The 15-second overlay lets you tap "Yes, drinking!" or "Skip":

  • Drink → next reminder at full interval
  • Skip (or auto-dismiss) → next reminder comes sooner (60% of interval)
  • Drink/skip history stored locally for 30 days
  • Preferences panel shows today's stats and weekly suggestions

Install / upgrade

brew upgrade --cask macbreak

MacBreak 1.3.1

@deepakk33 deepakk33 released this 09 Oct 17:27

Runs on Intel Macs and on macOS 13–15. Earlier release builds only ran on Apple Silicon with the latest macOS, despite the cask promising macOS 13 and up. 1.3.1 is a universal build targeting macOS 13.

Start at login, fixed twice over.

  • Ticking it while MacBreak was running made launchd start, and endlessly restart, a second copy, popping the Preferences window every ten seconds. It now just registers for the next login.
  • brew upgrade used to switch it off silently. MacBreak now remembers the setting and restores it after an upgrade.

Breaks now end on their own. When the rest is over the overlay fades away by itself and your clocks restart — no more pressing Done to get your screen back. The Done button is gone; Snooze is still there.

A rest dial. The countdown sits inside a speedometer-style dial that drains clockwise as you rest, in calm colours: sea glass for eye breaks, sand into sage for walks.

Native menu bar icons. The coffee cup is replaced by solid SF Symbols — an eye, a walking figure, a pause sign — tinted by macOS like its own status items. The countdown no longer jiggles the menu bar as it ticks.

brew upgrade --cask macbreak

MacBreak 1.2.2

Fixes a crash on every break. Pressing Done closed the overlay windows, which AppKit released a second time, segfaulting the app — so the menu bar icon disappeared after the first break and MacBreak stopped reminding you of anything.

Anyone on 1.2.0 or 1.2.1 should upgrade:

brew upgrade --cask macbreak

MacBreak 1.2.1

Fixes the Done button showing a raw second count on long breaks — a ten minute walk now reads Done in 9:56 instead of Done in 595s.

First real screenshots are on macbreak.vercel.app.

brew install --cask deepakk33/tap/macbreak

Two cadences — a 30 second eye rest every 30 minutes, a 10 minute walk every 2 hours. Done stays locked until the rest is over, and the overlay never auto-dismisses.

Install

brew install --cask deepakk33/tap/macbreak

or build from source:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/deepakk33/macbreak/main/scripts/bootstrap.sh | bash

The attached zip is not code-signed or notarised. The Homebrew cask clears the quarantine attribute for you; if you unzip it by hand, run:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/MacBreak.app

Building from source avoids this entirely.
