Overview

Om is David Nolen's thin ClojureScript wrapper around Facebook's React. The combination allows for a clean functional approach to DOM-centric client programming, leveraging the strengths of Clojure and core.async for browser-based client development.

Facebook React

To use Om, you really need to first understand React. The React documentation and blog are excellent, including the following articles which offer a good entry ramp.

Om Documentation and Tutorials

Next, several tutorials will ease you into the Om syntax and approach to reactive programming:

  • David Nolen's intro to creating an Om-based project with Light Table. Mimmo Cosenza has created a guide explaining how to use Emacs and nRepl instead.
  • Nolen has also included decent documentation and overview in the Om readme, but these are definitely easier to understand once you've read some of the supporting React documents.
  • Easy-to-read beginner's guide showing some of what Om adds to the plate over React.

Demos, sample code, and third-party apps

  • Goya a pixel-art editor.

Interesting bits that I've not yet looked at too carefully

  • Leiningen template that makes it easier to run server and build client from a single cli command.
  • The React tutorial, redone here and here in Om.
