OpenPatch 0.3.3
OpenPatch 0.3.3 · build 16
New
-
Interface size: Settings (gear) › Display › Interface size, from 75% to 200%. It's saved with your settings. On Steam Deck, Auto draws one point per screen pixel, so the whole interface fits 1280×800 in Game Mode as it does in Desktop Mode.
-
Game controllers: on Linux and Steam Deck, OpenPatch reads controllers natively, and Steam Input's default Gamepad layout works with no keyboard layout to set up.
- D-pad or left stick: choose the Patch Engine row and word; pans the rack when the panel is closed.
- A: build.
- X: surprise; play/stop on the rack.
- B: close.
- Y: Patch Engine.
- LB / RB: move focus.
- LT / RT: zoom.
- View: fit the rack.
- Menu: play/stop.
Settings shows the connected controller.
Fixes
- In Steam Deck Game Mode, the Patch Engine's Reveal/Showtime/Instant, Fast/Med/Slow and Autoplay/Light controls no longer cover the Genre buttons. The build options keep their own space at every interface size.
- Command +/- zooms only the rack; it no longer also resizes the interface.
Downloads
- macOS ARM: extract the zip and move OpenPatch.app to Applications.
- Windows x64: extract the full zip and run openpatch-desktop.exe.
- Steam Deck / Linux x64: extract the tar.gz and run ./install.sh, or run ~/.local/bin/openpatch-update on an existing install. On Deck, install in Desktop Mode; STEAM-DECK.txt lists the controller buttons.
Each archive includes the desktop app, the MCP command-line tool, examples and licenses. SHA256SUMS and build-provenance.json identify the exact files and the tested source. The Linux updater keeps your existing patches and settings.
The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized. Windows binaries are unsigned. General VCV plugin compatibility is still unfinished. Controller input and the Game Mode interface size are new and haven't yet been checked on Deck hardware.
OpenPatch 0.3.2
OpenPatch 0.3.2 · build 15
New
- Patch Engine v2: songs are built from the best instruments in the whole module library: FM and wavefolding voices, wavetables, physical models and analog-style filters. Hooks are short, singable motifs, and bass lines follow the chords. Songs can be classic, long, slow-building progressive or abrupt collage forms, with drifting arpeggios, tape echo and stereo width.
- Five new genres: Progressive House, Hypnagogic, Berlin School, IDM and Melodic Techno, for 13 genres plus C418 mode.
- Controls: energy, complexity, weirdness, space and song length (32, 64 or 128 bars).
- New sounds / New song / Evolve: keep the song and change the instruments, keep the instruments and write a new song, or nudge both. Every song has a short genome code, shown in the panel and saved in the patch notes, that rebuilds it exactly.
Fixes
- Panning or zooming the rack during a build no longer stops it with "document changed since native build preparation".
- Knobs, cables and modules respond to the mouse while the Patch Engine panel is open.
- Rebuilding a generated song no longer asks to save after you only panned, zoomed or played it. Real edits still ask.
- The Patch Engine word list shows a scrollbar, so the Controls below are easy to find.
Downloads
- macOS ARM: extract the zip and move OpenPatch.app to Applications.
- Windows x64: extract the full zip and run openpatch-desktop.exe.
- Steam Deck / Linux x64: extract the tar.gz and run ./install.sh. On Deck, install in Desktop Mode; follow STEAM-DECK.txt for Game Mode controls.
Archives include the desktop app, MCP command-line tool, examples and licenses. SHA256SUMS and build-provenance.json identify the exact files and tested source. Existing patches and settings are preserved by the Linux updater.
Patch Engine seeds from 0.3.1 compose differently in 0.3.2. Saved patches are unaffected.
The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; Windows binaries are unsigned. General VCV plugin compatibility remains unfinished. Windows audio hardware and Steam Deck hardware/Game Mode still need hands-on qualification.
OpenPatch 0.3.1
OpenPatch 0.3.1 · build 11
New
- Recall Random: related, repeatable rhythms and pitch voltages, six weighted scales, and live note recording. Panel edits and MCP use the same undo, presets and save workflow. Includes a quiet repeating-phrase example.
- Experimental Mac binary hosting: explicit playback, shared controls and coherent saves for one pinned Bogaudio OFFSET build. Requires separate local setup; plugin/runtime binaries are not included. See the hosting guide.
Fixes
- Reduce constructor stack use when building patches.
- Keep the telemetry concurrency check independent of wall-clock scheduling while retaining exact signal-light lease tests.

OpenPatch 0.3.0 — Patch Engine and creative instruments
OpenPatch 0.3.0 · build 10 combines Claude’s Patch Engine with the latest finished modular instruments and rack tools.
- Patch Engine: choose genre, mood and texture, keep or vary the seed, and build in Reveal, Showtime or Instant mode. Includes an original C418-inspired piano mode and optional Light mode.
- Five creative instruments: Tidal Functions, Frame Scene, Segment Garden, Event Fork and Rhythm Terrain. Source contracts and examples describe their supported behavior.
- Rack tools: Organize with row settings, directional signal-path tracing, cable materials, seated black screws, recent-file access, room brightness and anchored DSP/MCP panels.
- Visuals: Horizon, Phosphor, Ridges, Pulsar and Vector join Aurora, Spectrum, Waveform and Ferrofluid, with live GLSL editing.
- Safer live construction: Save/Discard/Cancel protects edited documents; atomic document/revision/layout checks prevent asynchronous builds from adopting another client’s edits.
- Desktop + CLI packages: macOS ARM64, Windows x64 and native Linux x64 for Steam Deck. Each includes examples, license notices and matching source links. Linux installs within your user account and preserves patches/settings.

The packages include the CLI used for MCP control. macOS/Linux support attachment to an existing window; Windows currently uses openpatch-desktop.exe --mcp to launch a controlled window.
Qualification and scope
The final release gate passed on all three platforms: strict lint, refreshed complete desktop suites and doc tests, optimized binaries, archive/install/launch checks, 153 native Linux/Mesa captures, Python/MCP and browser integration. Unchanged CLI/Core correctness results were source-checked against the recorded prior run; build-provenance.json records that reference and each archive’s source tree. SHA256SUMS contains the download checksums. Automated checks are distinct from Windows audio-device and Steam Deck hardware/game-mode qualification; those device checks remain open. This is a development-stage synthesizer with 91 native module kinds, not complete VCV Rack parity. Existing VCV plugin binaries are not hosted. Unfinished Recall Random and experimental binary hosting are excluded.
Original OpenPatch code is MIT licensed; combined binaries include GPL processors and are distributed under GPL-3.0-or-later. Corresponding source: https://github.com/dexterlabs1/openpatch/tree/v0.3.0 .
Patch Engine preview 4 (redesigned panel, line-art visuals)
Patch Engine preview 4: redesigned panel, line-art visuals
Patch Engine, redesigned
- Docked beside the rack in OpenPatch's own style: a single amber accent, a flat word grid and plain controls.
- The sentence and recipe (BPM, key, chords, build time) sit on a recessed display; tap more for the details.
- No Save/Discard prompt between generated songs. Only your own unsaved work asks first.
Visuals, reworked in the Waveform/Ridges spirit (thin, signal-following line art in ivory, amber and teal):
- Horizon (new default): a wireframe fly-over of recent spectrum frames with the live waveform as the skyline.
- Phosphor: a two-trace oscilloscope with afterglow.
- Ridges: polished, with the history rippling back through the stack.
- Pulsar: polar spectrum rings around a circular scope.
- Vector: an XY vector-display figure of the waveform.
- Aurora, Spectrum, Waveform and Ferrofluid stay.

Patch Engine preview 3 (C418 mode, new visuals, smoother Deck)
Patch Engine preview 3: C418 mode, new visuals, smoother Steam Deck
New
- C418 mode: a Minecraft-style mode with soft piano broken chords, slow lydian and maj7 harmony, a sparse piano melody and lots of space. Original music in that spirit.
- Six new GLSL visuals: Nebula (the new default), Tunnel, Halos, Lissajous, Ridges and Borealis. They react to the beat without strobing. The visuals bar is now a single slim row.
- Smoother camera: scrolling (trackpads) eases in and glides with Mac-like momentum. Arrow keys accelerate and decelerate. Scrolling now also works while the Patch Engine is open.
- Zoom is kept when a new patch is built, and the view jumps to the new patch.
- Compact Patch Engine panel, and the "Construction complete" bar now lives in the bottom bar.
- Quieter hats: the open hat is tamed (−6 dB, shorter and darker) and the closed hats are about −4 dB.
- Restored: the DSP load graph (click DSP in the bottom bar), the Organize menu, signal-path inspection and cable materials.
- Safer builds: Patch Engine asks Save/Discard/Cancel before replacing unsaved work, and the document is named after the song.
Includes Codex's latest work: Rhythm Terrain (Grids-style), Event Fork, Tidal Functions, Frame Scene, Segment Garden.

Patch Engine preview 2 (bolder songs, smooth on Steam Deck)
Patch Engine preview 2: bolder songs, smooth on Steam Deck
Songs
- Real structure: intro → build (riser, drum fill, kick cut) → drop → breakdown → second drop → outro. Dub Techno, Techno and Ambient grow over four 16-bar sections instead.
- Genre harmony: pedals for Techno and Dub, two-chord shell vamps for Deep House and UK Garage, full progressions for Lo-fi, Downtempo and Synthwave, voiced lower and warmer. Key changes only where they belong.
- Call-and-answer hooks, bell figures, a sliding "rubbery" bass, a kick tuned to the key, tighter pad detune, darker hats.
Steam Deck
- About 2× lighter DSP, built for the Deck's Zen 2 CPU, and a Light mode (on by default) that keeps every song inside one Deck core.
- Keys: F1 Patch Engine · PageUp/PageDown zoom · Home view · F11 full screen · arrows pan / pick words. The panel opens at launch on small screens, and after a build the view jumps to the new patch.
Also included: Codex's latest instruments (Tidal Functions, Frame Scene, Segment Garden, Event Fork).
