Testing the project on a mobile device

Testing the project on a mobile device If you are developing your project for a mobile device, you should do most of your testing on a mobile device. You have several options.

Device emulation on the desktop

Your browser can emulate a mobile device.

  • In Chrome press ctrl/cmd + shift + i to open the developer tools
  • Toggle the mobile device emulation mode with the little device icon in the toolbar
  • In the device mode you can choose a predefined device or choose an arbitrary screen size.
  • You can also emulate geolocations.
  • Read more about it in the documentation

Connecting a real device

You should also use a real device from time to time, for example to test the touch interaction.

  • Because we continuously deploy the application to Heroku, you can access the application through the Heroku URL. If you don't know the URL, ask your team mate who set up the project (and put it in the readme on Github).
  • To access the dev server, enter the URL that is displayed when you run the $npm run serve command. It should look something like this: http://192.168.1.146:8080/. It is possible that this will not work in the HSLU network and on some computers that have firewall restrictions.

Debugging with a real device

You can also access the browser developer tools for an application on your mobile device using remote debugging.
