This guide covers installing Seafile using the Debian packages from apt.crunchy.run.

Prerequisites

  • A Debian-based system (Debian stable/testing, or Ubuntu LTS)
  • Root or sudo access
  • A MySQL/MariaDB server, reachable from this host (local or remote) - see Configuration

Installation

sudo apt install curl
curl -fsSL https://apt.crunchy.run/seafile/install.sh | sudo bash -
sudo apt install seafile-server

This installs:

  • seafile-server - the compiled daemons (seaf-server, the Go file server and notification server) and the Seahub web frontend, with its background tasks and WebDAV support
  • seafile-server-data - the architecture-independent Seahub application (pulled in automatically as a dependency)

Optionally, for the read-only FUSE filesystem presenting libraries as regular files:

sudo apt install seafile-fuse

Alternative: Pre-built Packages

Download packages directly from the releases section and verify signatures with the signing key:

sudo dpkg -i seafile-server_*.deb seafile-server-data_*.deb
sudo apt install -f # install any missing dependencies

Post-Installation

None of the services start automatically after a fresh install - they need a database and secrets configured first.

Next step: see Configuration to set up the database, secrets and reverse proxy, then start the services.
