Codex Lifeboat v3.4.2
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.2 — clearer interface and path details
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.2 keeps the same simple goal: carry Codex projects, chats,
settings, and related local data safely between Windows 10/11 computers.
What changed
- A redesigned professional dashboard makes backup, restore, verification,
recovery points, and diagnostics easier to find. - Backup results now show clearer status, project, conversation, and size cards.
- Path-portability notices explain which local references are translated,
preserved, excluded as machine state, or need review. - Unknown path references remain included and do not block a valid backup or
restore; only an old link may still require attention after moving computers. - Local full paths stay private and are removed from saved or copied reports.
- The sidebar title now remains fully visible with Windows display scaling.
Download
Download Codex-Lifeboat-Windows-x64-Portable.zip, extract it completely, and
start Codex-Lifeboat.exe. Do not run the application inside the ZIP file.
This remains a public testing release. Keep an independent copy of irreplaceable
data and report unexpected results through GitHub Issues.
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.1
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.1 — faster backup and safer hand-offs
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.1 is a public testing release for carrying local Codex
projects, conversations, skills, and portable settings between Windows 10/11
computers. It is an independent community project, not an official OpenAI product.
Download
Most users should download only:
Codex-Lifeboat-Windows-x64-Portable.zip
Extract the ZIP completely and run Codex-Lifeboat.exe. Python, installation,
and administrator rights are not required. The standalone EXE and SHA256.txt
are also attached.
What changed
- Faster backup creation: payload files are hashed once during creation instead
of being read immediately for a duplicate full verification pass. - Verify backup remains the explicit independent SHA-256 reread of every file.
- Large conversation histories with hundreds of unavailable historical attachment
paths are analyzed without the previous severe slowdown. - The project-selection window opens maximized, shows more rows, and can be
restored normally from the Windows taskbar. - Added a read-only diagnostics center with an anonymized support report.
- Added a schema-aware portability audit for path-bearing Codex data.
- Added read-only Git explanations for project conflicts without changing Git.
- Critical JSON and checksum metadata now use durable atomic replacement.
- Safe conversation continuation is automatic only when the destination history
is proven to be an exact unchanged prefix of the longer backup conversation.
Safety and validation
- Authentication and machine identity are never transferred.
- Every completed package passes structural, SQLite, manifest, path, size, and
lineage checks before receiving its final name. - Verify backup independently rereads and checks every payload SHA-256.
- Source, packaged EXE, and freshly extracted ZIP pass 75/75 checks and 12/12
automated Windows compatibility scenarios. - Backups are not encrypted and may contain source code, Git history,
.env
files, API keys, and conversation content. Keep backup media secure. - The EXE is not commercially code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn.
Public testing status
This remains a pre-release while physical Windows 10, second-computer, USB-removal,
and complete A-to-B-to-A evidence is collected. Keep an independent copy of
irreplaceable data and never attach a real backup to a public issue.

Codex Lifeboat v3.4.0
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.0 — public testing release
Codex Lifeboat 3.4.0 is a major beta/release-candidate update for carrying local
Codex projects, conversations, skills, and portable settings between Windows
10/11 computers. It is an independent community project, not an official OpenAI
product.
Download
Most users should download only:
Codex-Lifeboat-Windows-x64-Portable.zip
Extract the ZIP completely and run Codex-Lifeboat.exe. Python, installation,
and administrator rights are not required. Codex-Lifeboat.exe is also attached
separately for advanced users. Verify the files using SHA256.txt.
Highlights
- Complete, independently verified backups of selected project directories.
- Recent, archived, pinned, project-linked, and projectless local conversations.
- Portable skills, settings, available attachments, and consistent SQLite snapshots.
- Pre-backup project inventory with paths, file counts, sizes, largest folders,

12/12 automated Windows compatibility scenarios. - The EXE is not commercially code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn.
- GitHub Actions publishes build-provenance attestations for all three release assets.
- Backups are not encrypted and can contain source code, Git history,
.envfiles,
API keys, and conversation content. Keep backup media secure.
Public testing status
This release is intentionally marked as a pre-release while real-world evidence
is collected for Windows 10, a second Windows 11 computer, physical USB removal,
and complete PC-A-to-PC-B-to-PC-A hand-offs. Keep an independent copy of
irreplaceable data.
Read the testing guide
and report results with the Compatibility test result issue form. Never attach
a real backup or unsanitized logs.
