Older File Assets do not allow changes to the file code in the editor #36543

Description

@DeanGonzalez

Problem Statement

Tested on a client instance https://dotcms.freshdesk.com/a/tickets/38293 and also demo.dotcms.com

When editing a pre-existing .css or .js File asset I can't save code changes in the editor to the code file, even as CMS Admin (see screencast under steps to reproduce)

However, when editing newly added files, I was able to save changes to the code file.

Steps to Reproduce

2026-07-13_10-56-46.mp4
  1. On the dotCMS demo site go into an existing starter theme file in the application directory that is a .css or .js file and attempt to add a comment to the first line of the code as the CMS Administrator
  2. Clicking on save does nothing

New file test:

  1. Create a new .js file and save/publish it
  2. Edit the file and save and it seems to work

Acceptance Criteria

Editing a pre-existing file asset that is a code file of any type should allow the user to save code changes when clicking on the save button and the window should respond and allow publishing of those changes.

dotCMS Version

Latest Evergreen tested on client instance: https://dotcms.freshdesk.com/a/tickets/38293 and on the demo site

Severity

High - Major functionality broken
