Cross Data Space Data Exchange – Enabling Interoperability Across Manufacturing-X Ecosystems

Manufacturing-X is creating a federated landscape of industry-specific data ecosystems such as CATENA-X as the enabler as well as Semiconductor-X, Chem-X, Factory-X, and many others applying the data spaces technology to other industries. While these data spaces enable secure and sovereign data exchange within their respective domains, real-world value chains typically span multiple industries and ecosystems. As a result, future use cases such as Digital Product Passports, sustainability reporting, resilient supply chains, and cross-industry collaboration require seamless data exchange across different data spaces.

This presentation introduces the concept of the Cross Data Space Data Exchange and explains how interoperability between independent data ecosystems is becoming a key success factor for Manufacturing-X. It outlines the business motivation, the technical challenges, and a potential solution approach based on Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC), Dataspace Protocol (DSP), Decentralized Claims Protocol (DCP), Digital Twins, and shared semantic models.

The session will demonstrate how organizations can participate in multiple data ecosystems while maintaining data sovereignty, trust, and security. Building on a practical demonstrator, attendees will gain insights into the requirements, architecture, and lessons learned from implementing cross-ecosystem data exchange scenarios between Manufacturing-X initiatives.
