1g1r not exporting roms when the roms are 'merged'

I'm not sure why my export isn't working. It seems like it's not

The following is how the roms are stored:

Then I export using this: (example, just one system for speed)

This (zip file) in my roms folder

But I don't get the rom when I export. I feel like it has something to do with the merged status of when I store?

Are you sure you want to merge all N64 clones together like that? The --merge-roms option is typically for arcade emulators such as MAME that are programmed to look in various places for all ROMs in a multi-ROM game. Merging can save disk space for multi-ROM games that share files, but N64 games aren't multi-ROM and wouldn't share any files with their parent.

The behavior you're experiencing is because your second command doesn't have the zip or extract command. When Igir goes to match ROMs in the DAT to scanned files, it sees that there is a match within the zip file, but it also knows that there are "excess" files in the zip (files from other games). Because you're only allowing the zip file to be copied as-is, the written file wouldn't be a perfect match for the game. Igir will ignore these matches unless you provide the --allow-excess-sets option.

Thanks for the info. While N64 was just an example, I suppose you are right as far as saving space for multi-filed ROMs. Though I do like the 'look' of one zip for each parent and all the clones. (I zipped up each clone individually for SM64, and they came to 29.3mb, while the full parent and clones in one zip was 29.5mb...odd, but maybe Windows built-in zip has different settings.)

I will probably switch to not merging my non-MAME sets. It's 'long term storage' anyways. To add, I did try the extract command, but I need my 'exported' roms zipped. Is it possible to do both extract and zip in the same command? I didn't think to try that.

I think what you'd want in your second command then is copy zip, which will rewrite zip files as needed. And because zip allows input archives to be rewritten, you won't have to fuss with the --allow-excess-sets option.
