Friendship - The biggest factor in the election is how much the voters like you. Each friendship heart that you have with a villager counts toward their decision to vote for you. This is part of the reason why the mod starts in the second year so people have time to get to know you.
-
Canvassing - While campaigning you can talk to villagers about the election. Canvassing a villager helps move them towards voting for you. Try to speak to everyone in town before election day.
-
Election Leaflets - You will receive Election Leaflets describing your policies. Hand them to villagers like a gift. Each voter who received a leaflet is more likely to vote for you.
-
Campaign support - Marlon is your campaign manager and is working behind the scenes on your behalf. His efforts can help win you a vote or two so keep an eye on your mailbox.
-
The debate - Three days (default) before the election the mayoral debate will take place. You'll be told the specific date by mail. The debate can be started by going into town on the day and the event will proceed to the debate stage. During the debate you answer a series of questions about your plans for the town. Performing well gives every voter a nudge in your favour.
The full mechanics for how voting works are explained here
Once you're a registered as a candidate the new "Polling Data" option appears when you use the telephone. You can call it to get a campaign status report from Marlon:
- Whether you've debated the mayor yet.
- How many voters have received leaflets.
- How many voters you've canvassed.
- How many villagers are currently planning to vote for you.
On election day itself the call will only give you a simple projection of whether you're on track to win or lose.
The timeline below assumes the default 14-day campaign (see Configuration). If election day would land on a festival, it's pushed back, and mail delivery can vary by a day.
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0 | The Adventure Guild event where you agree to run for mayor. The election is scheduled 14 days out. |
| 1 | Registration confirmation letter from Angela (S.V. Election Committee) with the election date. In multiplayer, farmhands get their own letter. |
| 3 | Marlon's letter advising to talk with voters arrives including 20 Election Leaflets. Canvassing begins and the Polling Data phone line is available. |
| 5 | Marlon's letter mentioning old town council members are open to supporting your bid. |
| 6 | Angela's letter announces the debate date. |
| 10 | Marlon's letter he's convinced Gus to vote for you, and includes an Election Sign to put up in town. |
| 11 | Debate day which can be started by going into town. |
| 13 | The "Voting is tomorrow" reminder letter is sent to every player. |
| 14 | Election day and the voting booth is in the town. |
| 15 | The official result arrives by mail. If you win go to town to start the ceremony. |
On the voting day the polling station will open in town. The polling station is open all day and the location depends on your Community Center progress.
- Community Center restored - The voting booths are set up inside the Community Center.
- Community Center not completed - A temporary voting office building appears in town for the day.
There will be a voting sign in town pointing the way. The villager schedule will be updated for the day and will drop by the polling station during the day to cast their own ballots.
Anyone (including you and any farmhands) can vote:
- Talk to Officer Mike at the security desk to receive a Ballot.
- Take the ballot to a voting booth and mark your chosen candidate.
- Drop the completed ballot into the ballot box.
At the end of the day the votes are counted. You'll get the official result by mail the next morning. If you have won the Governor will come to swear you in the next day (see Mayor in office). If you have lost you will be able to register for another run.
