Hushrooms

Hushrooms are sentient, soft-capped fungi that grow in clusters at the edges of paths, in old cellars, and along the seams of frayed regions. They look harmless — mottled, slightly drowsy, faintly perfumed — but their stillness is a watchfulness. When danger draws near, a Hushroom dims its glow, hunches its cap, and emits a small, urgent silence that the careful StoryWeaver learns to read like a sentence. A grove of Hushrooms gone suddenly quiet is the surest warning in Threadbare: something is coming, and the world is holding its breath.
