0.4.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Oct 02:22
dd0d10a

Highlights

  • Commit graph with branch lanes and merge visualization.
  • Multiple GitHub accounts with per-repository selection, plus multiple independent app windows.
  • Undo history, Undo Last Git Operation, bisect, stacked branches, and Push stack.
  • Rebindable keyboard shortcuts, pinned repositories, and custom repository groups.
  • OpenAI-compatible AI providers, per-feature model overrides, token-usage reporting, and an MCP server for coding agents.
  • Advanced clone options, PR auto-merge, Compare files, commit sign-off and templates, and external diff/merge tools.
  • Managed background servers on macOS and Windows, browser reconnection feedback, and server-update notifications.

Security and reliability

  • Repository file access rejects symlink escapes; AI input excludes secret-shaped files and masks known token formats.
  • Restrictive settings/log permissions, credential scrubbing, secret-gist-only settings sync, and stronger IPC and command validation.
  • Per-client AI cancellation, linked-worktree policy inheritance, safer undo and stack operations, and update gating across open repositories.
  • Faster startup tool discovery, lazy-loaded renderer dialogs and syntax highlighting, and lighter repository status queries.
  • Accessibility improvements, Windows argument/path fixes, and Linux, Windows, and macOS CI with Electron smoke coverage.

Packaging

  • Windows installer: x64 and ARM64.
  • macOS: universal Intel/Apple silicon DMG and ZIP.
  • Linux: AppImage and Debian package.
  • Fixed macOS packaging when signing secrets are absent. v0.4.0 was tagged but not published because of that build failure; v0.4.1 includes all of its changes.

Known limitations

  • Builds are unsigned; macOS auto-update remains disabled. Debian-package installations update through a new package rather than the in-app updater.
  • Managed background services on macOS and Windows have not yet been verified on real machines.

Smoother scrolling to review comments and diff lines

  • Opening an AI review comment no longer makes the diff flash or jump. The diff scrolls straight to the comment and keeps it centred.
  • A comment in another file now scrolls into view when you open it, instead of leaving you at the top of that file.
  • Links in AI explanations now reach any line in the diff. Before, lines far from what was on screen did nothing when clicked, as did links clicked just after switching files.
  • Blame cards, expanding hunk context and History search matches no longer shift the diff.
  • A diff no longer jumps back to the open comment when the file is saved and reloads.
  • The History list on phones no longer jumps when more commits load.

Faster everywhere, especially on your phone

  • The web app loads far faster from your GitGood server. About 2.8 s instead of 12.7 s on a slow mobile connection, and about 1 s on repeat visits.
  • Large diffs arrive much faster in the browser, and less data is passed between the app and its window on the desktop.
  • Big merge conflicts open and scroll smoothly.
  • The app appears straight away instead of waiting for git and gh to be located at startup.
  • Saves made in other editors show up almost instantly.
  • No more spinner flash when a diff opens quickly.
  • The installed phone app shows a "Can't reach your GitGood server" page with a Retry button instead of a browser error.

0.3.0

Highlights

  • Background server managed by the desktop app (Linux): File → Run GitGood server in the background… installs a service that runs the server bundled with GitGood, copies your settings and repositories into it the first time, and switches the desktop to use it. The desktop keeps that service on its own version from then on, so the desktop and server no longer drift apart.
  • Desktop updates while connected to a server: a desktop using a server now checks for and installs its own updates.
  • Version mismatch warning has a fix button: Restart server, Copy command (server run from a source checkout), Reload (server on another machine), or Check for updates.

Highlights

  • Server mode: run GitGood headless and use it from a browser on any device on your Tailscale tailnet. Access is locked to your Tailscale login; see the README's "Server mode" section.
  • Desktop app as a client: point the desktop app at a server to share one set of settings and repositories across machines.
  • Phone and tablet layout for the web UI: bottom tab bar, tap to drill in, back gesture, long-press menus, installable to the home screen.
  • Help panel and UX polish: in-app help, condensed toolbar, two-line commit rows, searchable shortcuts, clearer discard wording.
  • Fixes: push progress shows pre-push hook output; watched folders are scanned correctly at launch; the pull request list stays under GitHub's API limits.
