PrivacyDot v0.3.1

Choose a tag to compare

@farflashgroup farflashgroup released this 21 Oct 05:04

PrivacyDot 0.3.1 fixes stale Slack microphone warnings after a restart and makes the app-row action icons smaller.

Changes

  • Ignore old, unfinished Slack microphone records when every matching Slack process started after the recorded capture. Live Core Audio activity remains visible, and uncertain process information keeps the warning visible.
  • Reduce microphone, camera, and force-quit icon artwork by 20% while preserving the click targets and full-size quit-confirmation warning.
  • Include combined registry and live-device results in the native diagnostic command.

Install

Download and run PrivacyDotSetup.exe, or choose Settings → Check for updates in PrivacyDot.

This release is not code-signed. Independently signed updates remain planned separately.

Validation: release build completed with no warnings or errors; all 43 tests passed; all five extracted installer files matched the build payload, including app version 0.3.1.0.

PrivacyDot v0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@farflashgroup farflashgroup released this 01 Oct 04:49

PrivacyDot now shows which microphone or camera each detected program is using, with compact controls beside each app.

New

  • Group programs beneath named microphones and cameras. Multiple programs can share one device, and a program using several devices appears under each one.
  • Keep identical device names distinct with stable numbered labels during the app session.
  • Add monochrome microphone/camera controls with an explanation when temporary per-app access revocation is unavailable.
  • Add force quit: click the X to reveal a warning, then deliberately click again to close the matching processes. The warning expires after ten seconds and cancels on Escape, refresh, or leaving the popup.
  • Show device activity that cannot be attributed under Device not identified.

Fixes and compatibility

  • Fix popup shutdown errors and preserve readable executable paths in right-to-left layouts.
  • Handle camera stop reports, callbacks arriving out of order, and programs using several devices without duplicate app-only rows.
  • Microphone attribution uses Core Audio. Per-camera attribution uses Windows sensor activity reports on Windows 10 version 1703 and newer; Windows privacy records remain a fallback. Detection depends on the activity Windows and the driver expose.
  • Device monitoring reads usage metadata without recording audio or video. Force quit closes the matching app processes across all devices.

Install

Download and run PrivacyDotSetup.exe, or use Settings → Check for updates in PrivacyDot. This release is not code-signed.

Validation: release build and all 41 tests passed; the Windows camera monitor initialized and received activity callbacks. Simultaneous physical-device capture was not exercised.

PrivacyDot v0.2.2

@farflashgroup farflashgroup released this 03 Sep 14:47

Fixes

  • Prevents obsolete Slack microphone records left active in the Windows privacy registry from keeping PrivacyDot green after that Slack executable exits or is replaced by an update.
  • Limits the correction to %LOCALAPPDATA%\slack\app-<numeric-version>\slack.exe microphone records with no stop timestamp and a 30-second grace period.
  • Keeps the warning visible whenever the exact Slack executable is running or process inspection is uncertain; Core Audio detections, camera records, and look-alike paths are never suppressed.
  • Adds regression coverage for stale, live, uncertain, recent, non-microphone, Core Audio, and look-alike cases.

@farflashgroup farflashgroup released this 15 Aug 13:18

Fixes

  • Fixed the .NET Framework exception that occurred when localized tray tooltip text, including French, exceeded Windows’ 63-character limit.
  • Shortens long tray tooltips at safe Unicode text boundaries.
  • Kept languages in their dedicated submenu and made it open left or right based on available monitor space, preventing it from disappearing beyond a screen edge.
  • Added regression coverage for every supported language, French startup, Unicode tooltip handling, submenu structure, and screen-edge positioning.
