@farflashgroup farflashgroup released this 01 Oct 04:49

PrivacyDot now shows which microphone or camera each detected program is using, with compact controls beside each app.

New

  • Group programs beneath named microphones and cameras. Multiple programs can share one device, and a program using several devices appears under each one.
  • Keep identical device names distinct with stable numbered labels during the app session.
  • Add monochrome microphone/camera controls with an explanation when temporary per-app access revocation is unavailable.
  • Add force quit: click the X to reveal a warning, then deliberately click again to close the matching processes. The warning expires after ten seconds and cancels on Escape, refresh, or leaving the popup.
  • Show device activity that cannot be attributed under Device not identified.

Fixes and compatibility

  • Fix popup shutdown errors and preserve readable executable paths in right-to-left layouts.
  • Handle camera stop reports, callbacks arriving out of order, and programs using several devices without duplicate app-only rows.
  • Microphone attribution uses Core Audio. Per-camera attribution uses Windows sensor activity reports on Windows 10 version 1703 and newer; Windows privacy records remain a fallback. Detection depends on the activity Windows and the driver expose.
  • Device monitoring reads usage metadata without recording audio or video. Force quit closes the matching app processes across all devices.

Install

Download and run PrivacyDotSetup.exe, or use Settings → Check for updates in PrivacyDot. This release is not code-signed.

Validation: release build and all 41 tests passed; the Windows camera monitor initialized and received activity callbacks. Simultaneous physical-device capture was not exercised.
