Projects, review and refine, safer batches, and a shared core library.

Projects

  • codex-img init starts a project (codex-img.json). --no-events turns run logging off for it.
  • Per-project run history in .codex-img/runs/, one file per run, with paths relative to the project. Recent projects are listed in projects.json beside the global log.
  • An events setting in codex-img.json or the global presets.json turns run logging off persistently. CODEX_IMG_EVENTS still overrides it.
  • Event log v2: generation marks paid versus free runs, kind says whether an image is a rerun or an edit, and historyPath records replaced batch images.

Review and refine

  • codex-img comments and codex-img stars list and change review comments and stars in manifests and batch specs, without reformatting your files.
  • codex-img refine <image> <change> edits only what you ask for, from change text or a saved comment. It warns when a preset changed since the image was made.
  • codex-img rerun <image> generates again from an image's manifest.

Batches

  • Re-roll keeps the old image until the new one succeeds, and moves it to .codex-img/history/.
  • --restore brings back any earlier version, or any other image.
  • Per-spec locks: different specs can run at once; --no-wait fails instead of waiting.
  • --expect-images N stops before spending quota if the planned count changed.
  • --inspect --json reports each asset's state, including edited.
  • Conversion is skipped for assets whose generation failed.

Convert and check

  • codex-img check validates batch specs and codex-img.json against new JSON Schemas (schemas/).
  • convert: --nearest for whole-number pixel-art upscaling, --trim-density to drop sparse rows under a sprite, --mask-out to see what keying removed, and preview counts in --json.

For developers

  • crates/codex-img-core holds the deterministic local processing (codecs, transforms, palettes, sheet, tile, conversion) and the schemas, with no backend or auth code, so other tools can reuse it. convert output is pinned byte for byte by golden fixtures.
