Hall-e's first public release is here: a friendly, open-source macOS meeting assistant, made with cariño in Chile. 🇨🇱 🤖

Download and start

  • Apple silicon: download Hall-e-0.2.0-macOS14-arm64-adhoc.zip.
  • Intel: download Hall-e-0.2.0-macOS14-x86_64-adhoc.zip.
  • Unzip, drag Hall-e.app into Applications, and open it. Hall-e lives in your menu bar.
  • Add your Deepgram or Speechmatics API key in setup and allow that provider to process audio. We recommend configuring both for credit-exhaustion fallback.

Requires macOS 14+; capturing another app's audio requires 14.2+. These ad-hoc signed downloads are not Apple-notarized. macOS may require System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Managed Macs may disallow installation. See the installation guide.

What's included

  • Simple onboarding, a clean workspace, and focused settings.
  • Deepgram Nova-3 and Speechmatics Melia 1, with anonymous speaker labels in transcript viewing, copying, and export.
  • Automatic fallback when Deepgram explicitly reports exhausted credit, with separate provider consent and a shared estimated spending guard.
  • Project categorization, gentle five-minute meeting reminders with an optional calendar connection, and configurable 20-second silence detection plus a 20-second confirmation window.
  • Keys stored in macOS Keychain; recordings and transcripts stored locally.
  • MIT license, contribution/privacy documentation, and a friendly star/coffee section. Donation destination is coming later.

Validation and current limits

194 tests passed on both Apple silicon and Intel CI runners. Both downloadable archives passed signature/resource checks and a fresh-profile installation/launch check on macOS 15. Speechmatics also passed a live synthetic-audio test with two distinct speakers, including Hall-e's transcript normalization and speaker-label rendering.

Every user supplies their own provider API keys and credit; the developer’s personal accounts are not included or required. Provider behavior and credit-exhaustion routing have automated coverage. Apple Developer ID signing and notarization require maintainer credentials and are not complete. Interactive permissions, a real call, and macOS 14 runtime behavior still need manual validation. Provider credit and internet access are required for cloud transcription; trial terms are controlled by each provider.
