Hall-e v0.3.2 — Your meetings, on your Mac
Download and start
Download the DMG matching your Mac: arm64 = Apple silicon, x86_64 = Intel. Open it, drag Hall-e to Applications, eject the disk image, and open Hall-e. ZIP alternatives and SHA-256 checksums are included. Requires macOS 14+; meeting-app audio requires 14.2+.
These downloads are ad-hoc signed and are not Apple-notarized. After verifying the download source, try to open Hall-e once. If macOS blocks it, close the warning, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, click Open Anyway beside Hall-e, authenticate with Touch ID or your Mac login password, then click Open. This approves Hall-e specifically; do not disable Gatekeeper globally. Managed Macs may require IT approval.
Your first meeting
Follow four guided setup steps, allow the microphone, and choose your meeting language. For cloud transcription, connect your own Deepgram or Speechmatics key with Save & test, then allow audio processing. Speechmatics also requires a processing region and confirmation that Model Training is off. The connection check sends no audio and creates no paid transcription job; provider credit and model access still depend on your account. Supported local transcription instead needs Speech Recognition permission and an on-device language model, with no account or API key. Try the optional eight-second audio check.
Choose Start recording, name your meeting, and select Microphone + your meeting app for online calls. Join the call first and tell participants before recording. If app audio is unavailable, Hall-e shows a microphone-only warning and a retry action. Notes save automatically on your Mac; export your notes and transcript together as Markdown.
Existing recordings and provider choices are preserved. CI tests and fresh-profile startup checks run separately for Apple silicon and Intel. Real microphone permissions and live calls still need an interactive check on each Mac; automatic AI summaries are optional integrations, not part of local transcription.
Reliability fixes
Deleted recordings no longer reappear when a delayed processing callback runs. Deletion waits for active processing, and scheduled retries are cancelled after deletion. Failed recording sessions release their UI state correctly. Speechmatics submissions now require durable local checkpoints before uploading audio and before polling a newly created job.
Hall-e for Windows — Preview 0.1.1
Download Hall-e-0.1.1-windows-x64-setup.exe for Windows 11 on Intel/AMD x64. The per-user installer includes the runtime. A portable ZIP and SHA-256 checksums are also included.
This preview is unsigned. SmartScreen may offer More info → Run anyway after you verify the download source. Smart App Control, S mode, or organizational policy may block unsigned software. Do not disable security protections.
This patch includes recording, recovery, and installer fixes. Storage and Windows service tests, installation/update/uninstallation, and real WPF startup checks passed before publication. Live microphones and cloud transcription still require interactive testing.
Recording ownership now survives driver warnings and stop timeouts so Stop can be retried safely. Damaged recordings no longer prevent the rest of the library from recovering. Concurrent metadata updates preserve meeting edits and cloud job checkpoints; stalled transcription responses have a bounded timeout. Buttons and selected tabs have readable dark-theme labels, verified in the real WPF window. Packaging uses a clean payload and verifies the actual downloadable portable ZIP.

Hall-e for Windows — preview 0.1.0
The first native Windows edition of Hall-e, for Windows 11 computers with an Intel or AMD x64 processor. This is a separate preview release; the current Mac release remains v0.3.1.
Download and install
Download Hall-e-0.1.0-windows-x64-setup.exe, open it, follow the setup steps, and launch Hall-e from the Start menu. The installer includes the .NET runtime and installs for your Windows account; a normal installation requires no administrator password or developer tools. Run the same installer to update. A portable ZIP and SHA-256 checksums are also attached.
This preview is unsigned. If SmartScreen says “Windows protected your PC”, first verify that you downloaded the file from this official Hall-e release, then choose More info → Run anyway, when available. Smart App Control, S mode, or organizational policy may block installation without an individual override. Do not disable security protections. Windows on ARM is not supported by this installer.
Included
Microphone recording, optional computer-audio recording, a local meeting library, projects, notes with autosave, search, audio playback, local or optional cloud transcription, and Markdown export. Credentials are protected for the current Windows user with DPAPI. Uninstalling the app preserves the meeting library.
Computer-audio recording captures all sound from the selected Windows output device. Tell participants before recording. Offline transcription requires an installed Windows SAPI recognizer for the meeting language. Optional Deepgram and Speechmatics transcription requires your own provider account, a validated key, and explicit consent. Advanced Mac integrations and app-specific audio capture are not included.
Verified before publication
Built from commit a7a59b59c346f28c1f08ab67268a624bf580a6c9. The Windows verification run passed storage tests, credential and recovery checks, upload-consent checks, and installation, update, real-window startup, uninstall, and portable-startup checks. The real-window checks verified meeting refresh and preservation of edited notes. Downloaded installer and ZIP checksums were verified before publication.
Automated checks use isolated synthetic data and do not capture microphones or submit paid transcription jobs. Physical microphones, live-call synchronization, and transcription accuracy still require interactive Windows testing.

Hall-e 0.2.2 — Connect your meeting accounts
Hall-e now includes Connect your meeting accounts in first-run setup.
- Connect Google/Gmail/Workspace, supported Microsoft Exchange/Outlook/Microsoft 365 accounts, and other calendars through macOS Internet Accounts.
- Let macOS handle sign-in, allow Calendar access, and select the calendars Hall-e should import. No developer API credentials are needed for this route.
- See meeting invitations, attendees, responses, and recognized Teams/Meet/Zoom links in the existing agenda, project organization, and reminder workflow.
- New calendars start unselected. Refresh and disconnect controls are available in Settings → Accounts.
- Advanced direct Google OAuth remains available for existing users.
Scope: calendars and meeting invitations only; no email-message or Teams-chat access. Teams meetings come through the calendar containing the invitation, not a separate Teams account connection. Calendars must be available in Apple Calendar; standalone Outlook sign-in is not enough. Personal Outlook.com and organization-restricted accounts may require another Apple Calendar-compatible setup. There is no direct Microsoft Graph connection. See account setup and compatibility.
macOS calls the permission Full Access; Hall-e only reads selected calendars and does not edit source events. Disconnecting clears Hall-e's imported Mac-calendar cache without removing your accounts, source events, recordings, notes, or project assignments.

Validation: 198 automated tests, including calendar selection/cache cleanup, recurring occurrence identities, and Teams link recognition. Both architectures pass packaging and fresh-profile launch checks on macOS 15. The five-step onboarding and Internet Accounts shortcut were visually verified. Live provider sign-in/calendar synchronization, real-call permissions, and macOS 14 runtime behavior require manual validation; no personal account credentials were used for these checks.

Hall-e 0.2.1 — Your keys, your assistant
Hall-e now walks you through connecting your own transcription account on first launch. No Hall-e login, shared keys, or developer credits are included.
- Open Deepgram or Speechmatics signup directly from setup.
- Follow the linked API-key guide, return to Hall-e, and press Paste → Save.
- Choose Speechmatics processing region and confirm its training setting where applicable, then allow transcription.
- Follow the configuration checklist and make a short recording to check your key and credit.
- Start with one provider; add both for Automatic credit-exhaustion fallback. Eligible trial credit helps you get started; availability, expiry, and model access depend on your account.
Keys stay in the user's macOS Keychain. Hall-e reads the clipboard only after an explicit Paste action. Your provider account and billing remain under your control.

What's included
- Simple onboarding, a clean workspace, and focused settings.
- Deepgram Nova-3 and Speechmatics Melia 1, with anonymous speaker labels in transcript viewing, copying, and export.
- Automatic fallback when Deepgram explicitly reports exhausted credit, with separate provider consent and a shared estimated spending guard.
- Project categorization, gentle five-minute meeting reminders with an optional calendar connection, and configurable 20-second silence detection plus a 20-second confirmation window.
- Keys stored in macOS Keychain; recordings and transcripts stored locally.
- MIT license, contribution/privacy documentation, and a friendly star/coffee section. Donation destination is coming later.
Validation and current limits
194 tests passed on both Apple silicon and Intel CI runners. Both downloadable archives passed signature/resource checks and a fresh-profile installation/launch check on macOS 15. Speechmatics also passed a live synthetic-audio test with two distinct speakers, including Hall-e's transcript normalization and speaker-label rendering.
Every user supplies their own provider API keys and credit; the developer’s personal accounts are not included or required. Provider behavior and credit-exhaustion routing have automated coverage. Apple Developer ID signing and notarization require maintainer credentials and are not complete. Interactive permissions, a real call, and macOS 14 runtime behavior still need manual validation. Provider credit and internet access are required for cloud transcription; trial terms are controlled by each provider.
