Release list
Tusk v0.1.8
Fixes the 'Tusk is damaged' download error and the stuck setup screen.
Easiest install (one line — no 'damaged' error)
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/getsettalk/tusk/main/install.sh | bashIt downloads the app into /Applications and removes the download quarantine automatically.
Notes
- The app isn't Apple-notarized (needs a paid Apple Developer account), so a browser download gets quarantined and macOS says 'damaged'. Manual fix:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Tusk.app. - First-run Setup screen now always dismisses once setup completes.
Apple Silicon + Homebrew.
Tusk v0.1.7
Fixes the setup screen not disappearing after install.
If a post-install step (auto-start / .test DNS) hit a snag, the whole setup errored and left you stuck on the Welcome screen. Now those steps are best-effort: once the stack is installed, setup is marked complete and the app opens to the dashboard. If services didn't auto-start, just press Start all.
Apple Silicon build. Requires Homebrew. If macOS says 'damaged': xattr -cr /Applications/Tusk.app.
Tusk v0.1.6
Fixes a false 'Homebrew is required' error on the setup screen.
macOS apps launched from Finder don't inherit your shell's PATH, so brew wasn't found even when installed. Tusk now detects Homebrew by its absolute path (/opt/homebrew or /usr/local). Setup works again.
Apple Silicon build. Requires Homebrew. If macOS says 'damaged': xattr -cr /Applications/Tusk.app.
Tusk v0.1.5
One-click first-run setup — no Settings needed.
New
- After accepting the license, first run shows a big Setup & Install button with a PHP version dropdown (default 8.2). One click downloads + configures + starts PHP, MySQL, Nginx & phpMyAdmin — in the right order, so http://localhost and http://pma.test work immediately.
- Footer link to the project on GitHub (getsettalk/tusk).
- Checks for Homebrew and tells you if it's missing.
Install
- Download Tusk_0.1.5_aarch64.dmg, open it, drag Tusk to Applications.
- First launch: right-click → Open (unsigned). If 'damaged':
xattr -cr /Applications/Tusk.app. - Accept terms → Setup & Install (pick PHP 8.2) → done.
Apple Silicon build. Requires Homebrew.
Tusk v0.1.4
The out-of-memory crash during install is fixed.
Fixed
- The real OOM (crash to ~41GB): phpMyAdmin config generated its secret by reading
/dev/urandomwith a full-file read — but /dev/urandom is an endless stream, so it consumed all RAM. Now reads exactly N bytes. - Idle memory growth: removed a leaky Tauri event listener; install progress is now delivered by polling.
- Cheaper, non-blocking service status (2 brew calls, off the UI thread); non-overlapping refresh.
- phpMyAdmin is fetched via curl (~5MB) — no extra PHP pulled in.
Install
- Download Tusk_0.1.4_aarch64.dmg, open it, drag Tusk to Applications.
- First launch: right-click → Open (unsigned). If it says 'damaged':
xattr -cr /Applications/Tusk.app. - Settings → Install everything, then Services → Start all, then Settings → .test DNS.
Tusk v0.1.3
Definitive fix for the out-of-memory during installs, plus clearer progress.
- No more OOM: installer output is no longer streamed as UI events (that flood caused the 33GB blowup). Output now goes to a log file; the UI shows step-based progress ("Installing X — 2/4…") + an elapsed timer.
- phpMyAdmin via curl: downloaded directly (~5MB) instead of
brew install phpmyadmin, so it no longer drags in an extra PHP 8.4. - Minimal first install: PHP 8.2 + MariaDB + Nginx + phpMyAdmin only. Apache installs on demand.
- Full install output is saved to
~/.chowk/logs/install.log(open via Settings → Logs).
Install: open the dmg, drag Tusk to Applications; if macOS says 'damaged', run xattr -cr /Applications/Tusk.app.
Tusk v0.1.2
Fixes the out-of-memory crash during installs.
- Fixed 33GB memory blowup: install progress events are now throttled (~5/sec) and the
\rprogress-bar flood is dropped, so the IPC queue can't balloon. - Cleaner progress UI: removed the (empty) log box; now shows an animated progress bar, elapsed timer, and a single live status line.
Install: open the dmg, drag Tusk to Applications; first run xattr -cr /Applications/Tusk.app if macOS says 'damaged' (unsigned build).
Tusk v0.1.1
Bug-fix release — fixes the install hang / out-of-memory.
Fixed
- UI no longer freezes during installs — all install/service actions run off the main thread; the live log now updates in real time.
- Fixed runaway memory (multi-GB) during downloads — the progress-bar (
\r) output is now parsed correctly and capped, so Homebrew/PECL progress can't balloon RAM. - First-run installs only the essentials — PHP 8.2 + MariaDB + Nginx + phpMyAdmin. Apache and other components install on demand later.
- Homebrew runs with
NONINTERACTIVE/ no auto-update so it can't stall.
Install

- Open it, drag Tusk to Applications.
- First launch: right-click → Open (unsigned build).
- Settings → Install everything, then Services → Start all.
Requires Homebrew. Apple Silicon build.
