Reports Explained
The Reports page turns your trips and expenses into the numbers you actually need: your BAS GST credit and your annual tax deduction.
Open Reports, pick a financial year from the dropdown, and you'll see the sections below. (Australian financial year = 1 July to 30 June.)
β οΈ These are estimates for record-keeping. The app itself says: "Confirm figures with your accountant." Not tax advice.
The page shows your business-use % for the chosen year (from your trips β see Understanding the Logbook Method). This percentage drives every dollar figure below it.
If you're GST-registered, you can claim back the business share of the GST you paid on car costs, through your Business Activity Statement (BAS).
The report shows a table:
| Quarter | Covers | GST credit |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | Jul β Sep | $β¦ |
| Q2 | Oct β Dec | $β¦ |
| Q3 | Jan β Mar | $β¦ |
| Q4 | Apr β Jun | $β¦ |
| Total | full year | $β¦ |
How it's worked out: for each quarter, the app adds up the GST on your receipts, then multiplies by your business-use %.
GST credit β business-use % Γ (total GST paid that quarter)
So when you lodge each quarterly BAS, read the GST credit off the matching row.
π‘ Not GST-registered? You can ignore the BAS section β you don't claim GST credits, and instead your deduction is based on the full (GST-inclusive) amounts.
This is the figure for your tax return. It has two parts:
| Line | What it is |
|---|---|
| Running costs (business share) | Your business-use % of fuel, rego, insurance, servicing, repairs, tyres, interest/lease, etc. |
| Car depreciation (business share) | Your business-use % of the car's decline in value (only if you entered purchase date + cost) |
| Total deduction | The two added together β the number you claim |
GST-registered note: because you already claim the GST back through your BAS, the income-tax deduction uses the GST-exclusive amounts, so you don't double-dip.
Below the totals, there's a breakdown of your expenses by category (fuel, rego, insurance, β¦) at the GST-inclusive amount β handy for checking nothing's missing or miscategorised.
Sometimes an amber note appears, for example that depreciation was left out because your car's purchase-year cost limit isn't configured yet. This is a one-line fix in the app β see Troubleshooting. Your other figures are still correct.
The Print button produces a clean copy (navigation stripped out) β print it or "save as PDF". Do this:
- Each BAS quarter β for your GST credit figure.
- At tax time β for your deduction, to keep or give to your accountant.
- Business-use % β from your trips.
- BAS section β quarterly GST credits (GST-registered only).
- Annual deduction β running costs + depreciation, your business share.
- Print β keep the record.
