Highlights

Adds support for PHP 7.4 through 8.5 and modernises the dev toolchain. Backward-compatible for consumers — only the supported PHP range widens; all tooling bumps are dev-only.

Changes

  • PHP support: php constraint widened to ^7.4 || ^8.0 (tested on 7.4, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5).
  • Dev tooling: PHPUnit 9, PHP_CodeSniffer 4, graze/standards 3, Mockery 1.6.
  • Tests: migrated to PHPUnit 9 APIs (expectException(), assertMatchesRegularExpression, assertIsArray) and phpunit.xml.dist to the v9 schema.
  • PHP 8 cleanliness: removed deprecations across the whole range (strcasecmp null args, ${var} interpolation, ReflectionProperty::setAccessible()).
  • CI: matrix now covers PHP 7.4–8.5; dropped the unused Scrutinizer coverage upload.
  • README: added a Requirements section; replaced the Travis badge with GitHub Actions; removed unused Scrutinizer/MicroBadger badges and banner.
