What's new in v1.1.0

Context Types from existing classes

Any OWL class in your ontology can now be promoted to a Context Type — you are no longer forced to create a new class.

Add Context Type now offers two options:

• Create a new class — same as before
• Promote an existing class — pick any class from a dropdown; the plugin adds rp:isContextType "true" automatically

Edit Context Type on a role now shows all classes (not just pre-marked ones). Already-promoted classes are shown with a ✓ prefix; picking any other class promotes it on the spot.

Back-reference annotations

Whenever a role's context is set, the context class receives:

rp:isContextFor  <RoleIRI>

This makes the relationship navigable from both directions — visible in Protégé's standard Annotations view on the context class. The annotation is cleaned up automatically when the context assignment is changed or removed.

Installation

1. Download protege-plugin-roles-1.1.0.jar below
2. Copy into Protégé's plugins/ directory
3. Restart Protégé

3. Restart Protégé — a Roles tab will appear

Tested with Protégé 5.6.9 on Linux. Requires Java 11+.

What's included

• Roles tab with a two-panel layout: hierarchy tree on the left, role description on the right
• Context Types and Roles defined as annotated OWL classes
• Sub-role hierarchy via standard OWL SubClassOf axioms
• Multiple "played by" classes per role (add/remove from the description panel)
• All metadata stored as standard OWL 2 annotations — round-trip safe, SPARQL queryable
