Flaccy for Linux 1.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@guitaripod guitaripod released this 13 Jul 19:07

A remastered, full-window Now Playing — with lyrics and the queue side by side.

  • Three columns, your call. Toggle Lyrics and Up Next from the header to bring them in beside the cover — show any one, two, or all three at once, each an equal column, sliding in over the blurred, accent-washed art.
  • Everything without leaving the player. Tap a synced lyric to seek; reorder, remove, or jump around the queue; one persistent transport underneath. Escape or the back button returns you to the library.
  • Adaptive theme engine — the whole app retints to whatever's playing, or pick one of seven curated palettes.

Install: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh — or flaccy-bin from the AUR.

Requires x86_64 and glibc ≥ 2.34 (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 35+, current Arch). AAC/M4A/ALAC playback needs gst-libav (pulled automatically by the AUR package).

Playback errors are now visible, and AAC/M4A/ALAC play out of the box.

  • Clear playback errors. When a track can't be decoded, Flaccy now names it in a toast instead of silently refusing to start — and for a missing codec it tells you exactly what to install.
  • AAC/M4A/ALAC support. gst-libav is now a dependency (it supplies the ffmpeg-backed decoders). The AUR package pulls it automatically; if you install via the script, add it: Arch gst-libav, Debian/Ubuntu gstreamer1.0-libav, Fedora gstreamer1-libav.

Builds on 1.3.4's remastered full-window Now Playing.

Install: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh — or flaccy-bin from the AUR.

Requires x86_64 and glibc ≥ 2.34 (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 35+, current Arch).

A remastered, truly full-window Now Playing.

  • Now Playing fills the whole window over a blurred, accent-washed cover. Previously the sidebar, header, and bottom transport bar stayed visible behind it — now they step aside entirely. Exit with Escape, the back button, or the window controls.
  • Cleaner surfaces. The library grids and the queue and lyrics panels now float over the ambient wash in both focused and unfocused states — no more stray background color when the window loses focus.
  • Adaptive theme engine — the whole app retints to the album that's playing, or pick one of seven curated palettes.

Install: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh — or flaccy-bin from the AUR.

Requires x86_64 and glibc ≥ 2.34 (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 35+, current Arch). On older or musl-based distros, build from source.

@guitaripod guitaripod released this 13 Jul 16:57

Ships everything that landed after 1.3.2, now under GPL-3.0.

  • Disc-aware multi-disc album ordering. Multi-disc albums order by disc/side and the tracklist groups per disc, matching the Apple clients.
  • Enrichment progress fixed. The metadata-enrichment progress label no longer sticks at N/total.
  • Preferences remaster. A hero library dashboard fronts Preferences.
  • Licensing. Flaccy for Linux is now GPL-3.0; the release ships a LICENSE file and the AUR package installs it.

Performance: virtualized library grids.

  • The Albums and Artists grids are now virtualized. Previously every tile in your library was a live widget, so each adaptive-accent change (once per track) had to restyle the whole grid and every library load rebuilt thousands of widgets on the main thread. Now only the visible tiles exist as widgets — scrolling, song changes, and library loads stay smooth no matter how large your library is.
  • Covers and artist avatars still stream in as they decode, and a scrolled-away cover can never land on the wrong tile.

Install: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh — or flaccy-bin from the AUR.

Performance and queue polish.

  • Smooth song transitions. The adaptive accent now cross-fades in a single pass instead of flashing through an intermediate color, and the brief UI freeze on track change is gone.
  • Large queues stay responsive. The queue renders a window around what's playing (recent history + up next) instead of building every track at once, so multi-thousand-track queues no longer lock up — including when you tap a song already in the queue.
  • Now Playing at the top. Opening the queue pins the current track to the top with history tucked above it. Reordering, removing, and loving tracks no longer jump your scroll position.

Install: curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh — or flaccy-bin from the AUR.

Immersive Now Playing + theme-picker swatches

  • Now Playing view — click the mini-player artwork for a full-window focus player: a blurred, accent-washed cover fills the screen behind large artwork, big type, a gradient seek bar, and full controls. Built on the 1.2.0 adaptive theme engine, so it wears the album's color too.
  • Theme picker now shows a live color swatch for each palette (Adaptive + the six curated themes).

Builds on 1.2.0's adaptive theme engine (album-art accent, ambient wash, glass, motion). Everything else — gapless playback, MPRIS, Last.fm, synced lyrics, stats — unchanged.

Install

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh

Or yay -S flaccy-bin.

Adaptive theme engine — the whole app takes on the color of your music

Flaccy for Linux is now one of the best-looking players on the desktop.

  • Adaptive theming — the accent, ambient backdrops, and glass surfaces retint live to the dominant color of the album that's playing. Or pick one of seven curated palettes (Rosewater, Aurora, Nocturne, Verdant, Sunset, Mono) in Preferences.
  • Ambient gradient wash behind the library, glass cards with rim light and layered shadows, a glowing now-playing pulse, gradient seek fill, sidebar accent selection, an animated now-playing equalizer, and a glowing current lyric line.
  • Stats in your color — the streak heatmap and listening clock draw in the live accent.
  • Works in light and dark.

Everything else — gapless GStreamer playback, MPRIS media keys, Last.fm scrobbling, synced lyrics, listening stats — unchanged.

Install

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/guitaripod/flaccy/master/linux/get-flaccy.sh | sh

Or yay -S flaccy-bin from the AUR.

@guitaripod guitaripod released this 11 Jul 08:14

Hardening release on top of 1.1.1.

  • The automatic Last.fm history import now resumes an interrupted pull on the next launch instead of stranding a partially-imported history, so Stats always finishes filling in.
  • Added regression tests around the import/reconcile path.

Install via the AUR: yay -S flaccy-bin

@guitaripod guitaripod released this 11 Jul 08:03

Maintenance release.

  • Last.fm Stats: your listening history now populates the Stats tab automatically — top artists/albums/tracks fill in immediately, and your full history imports in the background (streaks heatmap, listening clock, play-count sorting). The importer now retries transient Last.fm errors instead of stopping partway through a large history, resumes where it left off, and imports far faster.
  • Icons: fixed several toolbar/sidebar icons that showed a broken-image glyph on KDE/breeze and other themes. The app now bundles its own symbolic icons so they render everywhere.
  • New flaccy --import-history headless command to pull your Last.fm history without opening the app.

Install via the AUR: `yay -S flaccy-bin`
