Release list
Prompuff 1.1.1
Prompuff 1.1.1. An accessibility release: Prompuff works better from the keyboard and with a screen reader, reads better in every theme, and fits its smallest window.
What's new
- Rate from the keyboard. Tab to a prompt's usefulness rating, then use the arrow keys, Home and End, or 0 to 5. Screen readers read it as "Usefulness" with its word, such as "Solid".
- Screen readers hear what happens. Confirmations such as "Moved to Recently deleted." and Quick save's error are announced on Windows and macOS. A heart says whether its prompt is a favorite, and Show details says when the details are open.
- Focus you can see. Keyboard focus is a ring that follows each control's rounded corners, everywhere. The focused row in list view no longer looks like a picked one.
- Easier to read in every theme.
- Text boxes, dropdowns and checkboxes have edges you can see.
- Tags and danger buttons read clearly on their tints, through small tweaks to tag colors in eight themes.
- The picked option in a segmented control stands out, and so do the counts on the sidebar's active row.
- A danger button's hover is a red edge instead of white on red.
- Fits the smallest window. At 960 × 600:
- The library's selection bar and the buttons in Settings fit.
- Long dialog titles wrap.
- The data folder's path wraps instead of being cut off.
- Toasts float above footer buttons.
- The Render tab scrolls once.
- Small things.
- Quick save's button says Save.
- The list view shows the rating's word beside its dots.
- A workflow's Previous and Next buttons point left and right.
- Small icon buttons share one size.

Prompuff 1.1
Prompuff 1.1. Puff comes alive, and the 1.0 promise grows: from here on, Prompuff only adds and extends.
What's new
- Puff comes alive. Puff says hello in empty states and looks around now and then, hops when something's saved, and squishes when you point at it on the About page or in the title bar. Every move is short and ends at rest.
- Reduce motion, in Settings › Appearance, holds Puff still and stops switches sliding. On Windows it starts out matching Animation effects in the system's settings, until you change it here.
- A calmer title bar. Puff bobs twice when Prompuff opens, then rests. It used to bob forever, which kept Prompuff redrawing even in the tray. The About page's Puff floats only while About is open.
- A wider 1.0 promise. Prompuff grows by adding and extending, never by changing what's there. Later versions open your library, import the Markdown 1.0 exports and keep your settings, and the
prompuffcommand and its MCP server keep working the way your scripts and AI tools use them. Each promise is a test against files and answers recorded from 1.0, pinned by checksum so they never change.

Prompuff 1.0
Prompuff 1.0. A local-first home for the prompts that actually worked. Talk is cheap; here are the prompts.
Watch the launch video and grab a download on the website: https://hazeliscoding.github.io/prompuff/
The 1.0 promise
From 1.0 on, Prompuff's formats stay stable:
- Every later version opens a 1.0 library, and a library from any earlier release, by migrating it forward after a backup.
- Markdown exported from 1.0 imports into every later version.
- Every migration is tested from every released schema version, using a fixture library for each. The formats are described in docs/library-format.md and docs/markdown-format.md.
What 1.0 is
- Keep the prompts that worked, with notes on why, tags, collections, favorites and a usefulness rating. Every saved change is a version you can read back or restore.
- Render
{{variables}}: fill them in, watch the preview, copy the result. - Capture from anywhere: copy a prompt in any app and press Ctrl+Alt+P (⌃⌥P on macOS), or use the tray.
- Chain prompts into workflows, filled in once and copied step by step.
- Find anything fast, even across 10,000 prompts: ranked search that ignores case and accents, plus
#tags. - Travel as plain Markdown: import files, zips or a whole folder such as an Obsidian vault, and export a
.zipfor another machine or a teammate. - Work from a terminal and AI tools: the
prompuffcommand searches, renders and saves, and its MCP server lets Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Copilot CLI or Codex use your library. You install the command, and MCP stays off until you turn it on. - Dress up in Prompuff Dark or Light, or Darcula, Gruvbox, Dracula, Nord, One Dark, Tokyo Night, Solarized or Catppuccin.
- Stay private: no account, no cloud, no telemetry. The only network request is the update check, and you can turn it off.
- Be usable by everyone: screen-reader names on every control, keyboard navigation everywhere, and WCAG AA text contrast in every theme.

Prompuff 0.9.0
The release candidate for Prompuff 1.0. Big libraries stay fast, screen readers can use every control, and Prompuff makes its 1.0 promise about your data.
What's new
- Big libraries stay fast. Prompuff builds only the cards and rows on screen and reuses them as you scroll. A library of 10,000 prompts opens in seconds and searches in a few milliseconds; before, it never finished opening. Favoriting, tagging and saving are about twenty times faster in large libraries.
- Accessibility.
- Every button, text box and list has a name screen readers can read; buttons with an icon and a label used to be read as "Avalonia.Controls.StackPanel".
- Library cards are read by their prompt's title.
- Tab moves through the window in reading order, with focus showing at each stop.
- Faint text, such as setting descriptions and timestamps, meets WCAG AA contrast in all 13 themes.
- The 1.0 promise, in Settings › About and the README. Every later version opens a 1.0 library and imports the Markdown that 1.0 exports. Each change to how the library is stored is backed up first, and tested against a library from every released version.
- Copy diagnostic info, in Settings › About, gathers versions, folders, library counts, settings and recent log lines for a bug report. Nothing is sent anywhere: you paste it yourself, and log lines are checked against your library so prompt text stays out.
- A user guide (docs/user-guide.md), and format docs for the library and the Markdown files.
Changes
- A new search, filter or sort starts at the top of the list. Refreshing the same view keeps your place.
Updating
Every platform picks this up through the built-in update check. The library moves to schema 7: Prompuff copies it to the backups folder first, then repairs any search entries that drifted from your prompts. A Windows copy of 0.8.0 updating to this version's first beta was checked by hand, and every prompt, tag and favorite came through.
Opening Prompuff on macOS
The Mac builds aren't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open it once, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. The README has the details.

Full Changelog: v0.8.0...v0.9.0
Prompuff 0.9.0-beta.2
The second v0.9 beta. The app is the same as 0.9.0-beta.1; only tests changed, so two of them no longer trip on slow or busy CI machines. Next comes the 0.9.0 release candidate.
What's in v0.9
- Big libraries stay fast: a library of 10,000 prompts opens in seconds and searches in milliseconds, and saving or favoriting stays instant.
- Accessibility: every control has a name screen readers can read, Tab follows reading order with focus showing, and faint text meets WCAG AA contrast in all 13 themes.
- Copy diagnostic info in Settings › About, for bug reports. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- A user guide, and format docs for the library and the Markdown files.
- The library moves to schema 7, after a backup. A copy of 0.8.0 updating to this beta was checked by hand: every prompt, tag and favorite came through.

Prompuff 0.9.0-beta.1
The first v0.9 beta, on the way to the 1.0 release candidate: big libraries stay fast, screen readers can use every control, and there's a user guide.
What's new
- Big libraries stay fast. Prompuff now builds only the cards and rows on screen and reuses them as you scroll. A library of 10,000 prompts opens in seconds and searches in a few milliseconds; before, it never finished opening. - A user guide (docs/user-guide.md) and format docs for the library and the Markdown files, for anyone reading them with other tools.
Changes
- A new search, filter or sort starts at the top of the list. Refreshing the same view keeps your place.
- The library moves to schema 7. Prompuff backs it up first, as with every format change, and repairs a search index that has drifted from your prompts.

Prompuff 0.8.0
Themes, a Beta channel, and checksums. Prompuff now dresses in palettes you know from your editor, and you can try new versions early.
What's new
- Themes. Settings › Appearance offers Darcula, Gruvbox Dark and Light, Dracula, Nord, One Dark, Tokyo Night, Solarized Dark and Light, and Catppuccin Mocha and Latte, next to Prompuff Dark and Light. Each theme previews in its own colors. Pick a dark one and a light one, and System follows your computer between them. Everything restyles straight away, dialogs included.
- The Beta channel. Choose Beta in Settings › Updates to get new versions early, as GitHub pre-releases. A copy on Beta still gets every stable release, and updates never go back a version, so switching back to Stable keeps the beta until a newer stable release comes out. A beta install updating to the next beta was checked by hand.
SHA256SUMScomes with every release, so you can check a download. The README shows how on each platform.
Changes
- Prompuff Light's accent is one step darker (teal-700), so labels on its buttons reach WCAG AA contrast. Every theme's text colors are now tested against the same bar.
- The sidebar's update notice is shorter, so long version numbers fit.
Fixes
- A setting missing from
settings.jsonnow keeps its default. Since 0.7.0, a missing key came back as off or empty; no setting from a released version was affected, because Prompuff writes every key. - A workflow import that fails no longer writes the failing step's title to the log. Logs never hold prompt text.

Every platform picks this up through the built-in update check. The library doesn't change format.

Prompuff 0.8.0-beta.2
The second v0.8 beta. The code is the same as 0.8.0-beta.1. This release checks that a copy on the Beta channel updates from one beta to the next, with a small delta download.
What's in v0.8
- Themes: Darcula, Gruvbox Dark and Light, Dracula, Nord, One Dark, Tokyo Night, Solarized Dark and Light, and Catppuccin Mocha and Latte, next to Prompuff Dark and Light, in Settings › Appearance.
- The Beta channel in Settings › Updates. A copy on Beta also gets every stable release, and never goes back a version.

Prompuff 0.8.0-beta.1
The first Prompuff beta: themes, a Beta channel, and checksums on every release. Betas are for trying what's next before it reaches everyone. Your library is backed up before any update, and this one doesn't change its format.
What's new
- Themes. Settings › Appearance now offers palettes you know from your editor, next to Prompuff Dark and Light: Darcula, Gruvbox Dark and Light, Dracula, Nord, One Dark, Tokyo Night, Solarized Dark and Light, and Catppuccin Mocha and Latte. Each one previews in its own colors. Pick a dark theme and a light theme, and System follows your computer between them. Everything restyles straight away.
- The Beta channel works. Choose Beta in Settings › Updates to get betas like this one. A copy on Beta also gets every stable release, and updates never go back a version, so switching back to Stable keeps the beta until a newer stable release arrives.

Prompuff 0.7.0
Your library, from a terminal and from AI tools. Every package now carries prompuff, a small command for scripts, and an MCP server for tools like Claude Code. Nothing is installed or shared until you choose to in Settings › Integrations.
What's new
- The
prompuffcommand.search, list, getandrenderread the same library as the app, whether or not it's open, andquick-savestashes text from stdin (git diff | prompuff quick-save --title "Review this diff"). Name a prompt by its title or ID.render "Angular Upgrade Planner" --var repo_name=acmefills in what you pass and leaves the rest as{{tokens}}, listed on stderr. Add--jsonfor scripts. The exit code is 0, 1 for an error, or 2 when no prompt or several prompts match. - Install from Settings › Integrations. On Windows, Install adds the command to your user PATH, and uninstalling Prompuff takes it back out. On Linux and macOS, it links
~/.local/bin/prompuffto a copy in Prompuff's data folder and keeps that copy current after updates. Remove undoes it. - AI tools can use your library over MCP.
prompuff mcplets an AI tool search, read and render your prompts, and read any prompt as Markdown. Your favorites show up as prompts with their variables as arguments:/mcp__prompuff__…in Claude Code, or the + menu in Claude Desktop. It's read-only, so nothing in the library can be changed or deleted through it. - Off until you turn it on. "Let AI tools read my library (MCP)" starts off. While it's off, a tool you've connected gets nothing back, and turning it on works without restarting the tool.
- Setups ready to copy for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, GitHub Copilot CLI and Codex, with the right path filled in. Copying one offers to turn MCP on. The README lists the same setups.
- The app keeps up. A prompt saved from the terminal shows up in the open app within two seconds.
Checked by hand: Claude Code and Codex each searched a library and rendered a prompt with variables through Prompuff's MCP server, on Windows. The Copilot CLI setup follows GitHub's docs and hasn't been run by hand yet. CI and the release build run the packaged command on every platform, including under Rosetta on Intel Macs.
Privacy
The command and the MCP server make no network requests. The MCP server only answers the AI tool that started it, and only while the switch is on. What that tool does with a prompt is up to the tool.
Updating
Every platform picks this up through the built-in update check. The library doesn't change format in this release.
Opening Prompuff on macOS
The Mac builds aren't notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open it once, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. The README has the details. When Prompuff installs the command, it clears the download's quarantine flag on its copy, so Terminal can run it. That step can't be checked without a Mac, so please open an issue if prompuff won't start.
