  • A clear recommendation to install layerling as an app: The small strip on the start page is now a card that is meant to be seen: as an app layerling starts faster, works without internet, has its own icon and window and does not have to be loaded again each time, and nothing is lost, as layerling still tells you when a new version is out. Where the browser has an install button it is on the card; "Not now" hides the card for two weeks, the cross for good. In the editor the same card appears at the foot of the work area after half a minute of work, so it never gets in the way of the first clicks, and it steps above the support reminder when both are there. Its icon is the same size as the one on the backup notice. It still shows only where installing works (https), never inside the installed app, and not in an ordinary browser tab either once the app has been installed or opened on this computer. The guide's chapter on installing says why it is worth it.
  • The view follows bodies set high above the plate (#425): With the height no longer held to 220 mm, a body typed in high above the plate could not be centred: Zoom to the selection (F) let it slip off the top edge, because the camera's pivot was held to 70 mm below and 120 mm above the plate. The pivot now reaches to the top of the highest body and the foot of the lowest. Found from a report that bodies at that height could hardly be picked or resized; picking itself worked in my tests up to 900 mm, so that report is not settled.
  • An open sketch line points to Stroke (#478): Extrude Sketch needs a closed outline and said only to close a loop, although an open line can be built as a stripe with a width: tick "Build as a stroke" in the Finish section. The message now says so, in every language. Asked by @Cowski4444, who wanted Tinkercad's three-sided box. French: the stroke was called "Accident vasculaire cérébral" and "Construire comme un coup" (a stroke in the medical sense); it is "Trait" and "Construire comme un trait" now, and "Poste" and "Se termine" in its panel are "Position" and "Extrémités".
  • A twisted star stays straight (#476): A star twisted about its height turned about the middle of its box, not about its own middle. A five-pointed star is not centred in its box (it reaches further up than down), so its middle circled round the axis and the tips came out at different distances: with a twist of 360 degrees they reached 30 mm from the axis at the bottom and 35 mm in the middle. The star now turns about its own middle in the editor, in the exact body and in the exports; taper works about the same point. Other shapes keep turning about the middle of their box. Reported by @RobbieKnobbie on GitHub.
  • The "What is new" card says it is an excerpt, and links the release notes: The cards show a selection of what came with a version. A note at the top of the card, and of the list shown before an update, now says that a release can contain more, smaller changes and bug fixes, and links the release notes on GitHub, where everything is listed.
  • F zooms to the selection (#465): Suggested by @WagnerBoyzRacing, who came from Tinkercad and found F taking him to the middle of the grid, with the selection one Shift away. F now looks at what is selected and, with nothing selected, still brings the whole scene into view; Shift+F works as before. The whole scene is always shown by [Home] and the house button, whose tooltip now names that key. The sketch behaves the same. This changes what F does while something is selected.
  • Interactive Help finds the right place for the buttons that missed it (#424): Reported by @prmod3d, who went through the program button by button. Some places found nothing (visibility options, the command search, the design name, the footer links, the snap grid list, the mm and in switch) and some led to the wrong section (Paste, Delete, Ungroup, Workspace settings, Theme, Rename design, Hide selected and more), because the guide did not write these names or another section wrote them more often. Chapter 1 has a new section, The buttons around the work area, in every language, with one short entry for each and one for the footer; the snap grid list, the mm | in switch and the version link now ask the guide for the right name. More places are to follow as they are found.
  • A line round a traced sketch no longer times out (#461): A sketch from an SVG with hundreds of small curves stopped with "OpenCascade timed out while building the sketch" once a line was set round it. The kernel could not move the outline, so the line was worked out as straight pieces, 32 for every curve - 29 000 edges for a bulldog drawing - and the kernel's validity check alone took 51 s of a 56 s build. Curves are now cut only as finely as 0.01 mm needs (a short curve gets 4 pieces, a long one at most 32), and a sketch of more than 1 500 edges is checked by its volume, not by the validity check. The same drawing builds in 1-5 s.
  • A design too big to save says why, and is saved anyway (#475): A design with very large meshes and a long history failed to save after almost every change, with the bare text "Could not save design shapes", and every change felt slow. Now the message names the reason when it is one you can act on: the design is too big for the project file (delete the history or simplify the heaviest bodies), or the browser has no room left. And when only the whole history is too much, the stored copy in the browser keeps the newest steps that fit, so the design is saved at all; the message says how many steps it kept, once per design. Undo in the open session still has every step. Reported by @grmonsey on GitHub.
  • French: five more shape names (#406): Suggested by @medmed58, who works with these words: the screw-head cutters are holes, so "Trou lamé", "Trou fraisé" and "Trou doublement fraisé" instead of "Lamage", "Fraisage" and "Double fraisage"; the bent tube is "Tube cintré" (the craft word for a bent pipe, not "courbé"); the round roof is "Demi-cylindre". The guide and the start page follow, and the old words still find the shapes in the command search.
  • A custom shape hangs on the pointer (#463): A click on a tile of the custom shapes put the shape into the design at once, at the middle of the workplane; only dragging it out of the list chose the place. Now it hangs on the pointer like the shapes of the library: it follows it, also over the faces of other bodies, a click sets it down and Esc puts it away. With "click to place" switched off in the settings it is still put at the middle at once. Reported by @t9vh6j9rt4-collab on GitHub.
  • A chapter of the guide for tablets, and a hint on the start page (#467): What a tablet needs was spread over the guide: the long press menu, Select multiple, turning with one finger, the Touch rotate switch, the stylus. The new chapter Tablet and touch (chapter 17) puts it in one place, with what to know on an iPad: install it as an app from the Home Screen, that Safari deletes what a website stored after seven days without a visit unless it is a Home Screen app (as WebKit describes it), downloads instead of saving into a folder, and Back up all. It is there in English, German, Dutch, French, Russian, Czech and Slovenian; the others show the English text. On a device whose main input is touch, a strip on the start page points to it once: it has a button to the chapter, a cross, and is gone for good after either. A computer with a mouse never shows it. Suggested after a question from an iPad user.
  • The Face tool starts from its defaults (#471): It opened with the values of its last use, even when nothing was created, so an inset that fitted one face came along to the next, where it could be too wide and leave little of the face, or nothing. Each time it opens it now starts from an inset of 0, no corner radius, a depth of 2 mm and Out: add material; choosing another face while it is open keeps the values. Contributed by @mlugo-apx.
  • Delete face (#451): A fillet, a hole or a boss that came with a part imported as STEP could not be taken off in layerling at all, and one in a group an edge treatment had turned into one body only by taking back that treatment and every one after it. A new tool in the Modify group, Delete face, takes them off: click the faces of what should go (a picked face lights up, another click takes it out again), then Delete or the Delete key, and the faces around them grow until the gap is closed. The body stays exact, so Fillet, Chamfer and the STEP export work on it as before; the deletion is one undo step and is listed with the fillets and chamfers under Undo an edge feature, where it can be taken back. Where the faces around them cannot close the gap, such as a main side of a box, nothing changes and the panel says why. Deleting only the floor of a pocket makes it a hole straight through. On a detailed imported part a few faces can take the CAD kernel too long; after 45 seconds the deletion is stopped and nothing changes. It needs exact faces: whatever layerling keeps as a mesh (an imported STL, OBJ or 3MF, a split, wrapped or simplified body, a very detailed shape such as a long text) gets a message saying so. The ribbon has one more button, so its three width steps moved to 2081, 1765 and 1615 px. Also through the MCP actions layerling_list_faces and layerling_delete_faces. Contributed by @mlugo-apx.
