🎉 Major Themes in v1.3.06
Cross-Device Sync Graduates from Beta
The sync engine introduced in v1.2.06 is now fully stable with end-to-end encryption, offline conflict resolution, and real-time collaborative sessions across an unlimited number of paired devices. Pairing is as simple as scanning a QR code — no accounts, no servers, no tracking.
Engine Overhaul: Leaner, Faster, Stronger
A ground-up rewrite of the media core queue manager, bitmap pipeline, and database layer yields dramatically smoother performance on low-end devices while preserving every feature from previous versions. Cold start is now sub-second on mid-range hardware.
Universal Audio Effects Pipeline
All audio effects — equalizer, spatial audio, crossfade, normalization, and the new real-time reverb — are now processed through a unified, zero-latency DSP graph that applies consistently across local files, streams, and casts.
🚀 What's New
☁️ Cross-Device Sync (Stable)
- Unlimited device pairing — sync your library state across any number of phones, tablets, TVs, and watches. No artificial caps.
- Offline-first conflict resolution — devices can be offline for weeks and still merge flawlessly when they reconnect. The sync engine uses vector clocks to preserve every change without asking you to pick a winner.
- Selective sync — choose which playlists, sources, or cached folders sync per device. Keep your phone lightweight while your tablet carries the full archive.
- End-to-end encryption — all sync traffic is encrypted with X25519 + AES-256-GCM. The relay server cannot read your data, your playlist names, or your listening history.
- LAN turbo mode — when devices are on the same network, sync runs over mDNS discovery with zero internet usage and transfer speeds up to 120 MB/s on Wi-Fi 6.
- Wear OS two-way sync — playlists created on your watch now sync back to the phone instantly, and vice versa.
🤝 Collaborative Playlists 2.0
- Persistent rooms — collaborative sessions can now be saved as permanent "rooms" tied to a playlist. Re-open the room anytime without re-inviting participants.
- Permission levels — set participants as Owner, Editor, or Voter. Owners can lock the queue, force-skip, or kick disruptive members.
- Reaction system — double-tap a track in the collaborative queue to send a heart, fire, or skull emoji that animates across all connected devices in real time.
- Queue history log — a full chronological log shows who added what, when, and from which source. Great for settling disputes about who queued the dreaded 10-minute ambient drone track.
- Listen together mode — when all participants are on the same Wi-Fi, playback can be synchronized across all devices with sub-50 ms latency for impromptu silent-disco-style sessions.
🎨 UI & Interactions
- Edge-to-edge immersive player — on Android 15+, the full player now extends under the system bars with dynamic scrim gradients that protect readability against any album artwork.
- Haptic choreography — every meaningful interaction now has subtle, distinct haptic feedback: a soft tick when scrolling through tracks, a satisfying snap when reordering queue items, and a deep thud when reaching the end of a playlist.
- Predictive search — the search bar now suggests completions based on your library, recent trends, and LRCLIB lyrics metadata before you finish typing. Results appear in under 100 ms.
- Smart album grid — the Library album grid now auto-sizes columns based on screen width and artwork aspect ratio, so square covers, tall vinyl scans, and wide movie-soundtrack art all look correct without cropping.
- Quick Actions on long-press — long-press any song, album, or artist anywhere in the app to reveal a context menu with Add to Playlist, Start Radio, Share, Download, and View Stats.
- Sleep timer redesign — a beautiful circular timer picker with presets (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour, End of Track) and a gentle volume fade that starts 2 minutes before cutoff.
🧠 AI & Discovery
- Vibe search — describe a feeling in plain language ("sounds like driving through neon Tokyo at midnight") and the AI searches across all your connected sources to find matches, not just generate a playlist.
- Auto-curate daily mixes — each morning, the app generates three personalized mixes based on your yesterday, your last week, and a discovery wildcard, delivered as notification cards you can tap to play instantly.
- Source-aware recommendations — the AI now knows whether a track is local FLAC, YT Music, or Telegram, and prefers higher-quality sources when multiple matches exist.
- Playlist health check — a monthly automated scan detects broken links, unavailable tracks, and duplicates across sources, offering one-tap fixes to keep your playlists pristine.
- Mood timeline — view a visual graph of your listening mood over the last 30 days, auto-classified by the AI based on tempo, key, genre, and lyrics sentiment.
🎤 Lyrics & Language
- AI-powered lyric translation — when no human translation exists in LRCLIB, the app can generate a context-aware translation on-device using a small, quantized neural model. No internet required.
- Lyrics-to-notes — tap any line of synced lyrics to attach a personal note, memory, or bookmark. Notes sync across devices and appear as small markers in the timeline.
- Multi-language track handling — tracks that contain multiple languages (e.g., K-pop, Bollywood, Afrobeat) now display inline language tags per line and allow per-language font selection for readability.
- Full-screen lyrics theater — a dedicated reading mode with large typography, optional background video loop derived from the album artwork, and auto-scrolling that follows the song perfectly.
- Lyrics export — export any track's lyrics (including your custom timing offsets and notes) as LRC, TXT, or JSON.
🌐 Streaming & Sources
- Plex / Jellyfin server support — connect to your self-hosted Plex or Jellyfin library and stream your full personal media server through the Pixel Music interface with full metadata, artwork, and transcoding awareness.
- SoundCloud import — connect your SoundCloud account to import likes, playlists, and followed artists. Tracks are matched to YT Music or local sources for playback within Pixel Music.
- Bandcamp Friday integration — on Bandcamp Fridays, the app surfaces your wishlist and purchase history as a dedicated discovery card, with direct links to the Bandcamp app for buying.
- Radio recording & clipping — when listening to internet radio, tap "Record" to save the stream to local storage. Auto-split into tracks when station metadata updates, or export arbitrary clips with a waveform trimmer.
- Subsonic / Airsonic API — full compatibility with Subsonic, Airsonic, Navidrome, and compatible forks as a streaming source. Supports starred tracks, playlists, and podcast channels.
- CDN edge caching — frequently accessed YT Music artwork and stream metadata are now cached at the edge via a lightweight distributed CDN, reducing latency by 40 % for users outside North America and Europe.
⚡ Audio & Playback
- Real-time reverb — a studio-quality reverb engine with presets: Small Room, Large Hall, Cathedral, Plate, and Arena. Applies to all sources with adjustable wet/dry mix and decay time.
- Bass-managed stereo widening — a new psychoacoustic width enhancer that respects bass mono compatibility, preventing the "thin bass" problem common on simple stereo wideners.
- Per-app volume ducking — when another app requests audio focus (e.g., a navigation prompt), Pixel Music now applies a configurable sidechain duck curve rather than a blunt pause.
- Lossless Bluetooth priority — on Android 15+ with supported codecs (LDAC, aptX Lossless, LHDC), the app now requests the maximum bitrate profile automatically and shows a "Lossless" badge in the player.
- Audio output switcher — a quick output picker in the player sheet lets you instantly move playback between phone speaker, Bluetooth, wired, Chromecast, or DLNA renderers without stopping the track.
- Pre-load cache — when you start an album or playlist, the next two tracks are pre-buffered in the background so skips are instant, even on slow mobile networks.
📲 Widgets, Tiles & Wear
- Stackable widgets — multiple Pixel Music widgets can now be stacked in the same home-screen slot on Android 15+ launchers, flipping through player, stats, and lyrics views with a swipe.
- Always-on display support — when playing and the screen is locked, the AOD shows a minimal, burn-in-resistant player with track info and basic controls on supported OLED devices.
- Wear OS app launcher — the Wear OS companion now appears as a standalone app in the watch launcher with its own mini-library, search, and offline-downloads tab.
- Watch gesture controls — flick your wrist forward to skip, rotate the crown to scrub, and cover the screen with your palm to pause — all configurable in Wear Settings.
- Tile auto-update — Glance and Wear tiles now update their artwork and metadata within 500 ms of a track change, down from 3–5 seconds in previous versions.
- Automotive-grade widget — a new large-format widget designed for Android Automotive and third-party car launchers, with oversized touch targets and voice-command integration.
📊 Stats & Insights
- Decade rewind — in addition to year-in-review, the app now generates decade-style retrospectives showing your evolving taste, top artists per year, and genre shifts over time.
- Listening commitment score — a playful metric that rewards you for finishing tracks rather than skipping, with streaks and badges for "completionist" behavior.
- Source breakdown — a pie chart showing what percentage of your listening comes from local files, YT Music, Telegram, Drive, radio, and other sources, updated daily.
- Sleep & activity correlation — if you grant Health Connect access, the app can correlate your listening patterns with sleep quality and step count (fully opt-in, data never leaves device).
- Global anonymous trends — see what songs are trending among Pixel Music users worldwide, filtered by country, with the ability to one-tap import the top 100 into a "Global Trending" playlist.
🔧 Improvements Since v1.2.06
- Cold start — sub-900 ms on Snapdragon 7-series and equivalent. Sub-1.5 s on 4 GB RAM budget devices.
- RAM footprint — idle background usage reduced by 35 % through aggressive bitmap eviction and shared database connection pooling.
- Battery — background sync now uses exactly one network wake-up per hour for non-urgent tasks, reducing standby drain by 50 % compared to v1.2.06.
- Database — rewritten indexing strategy cuts library scan time for 100,000 tracks from 8 minutes to 90 seconds on mid-range devices.
- Artwork pipeline — Coil cache hit rate improved from 72 % to 94 % through smarter LRU sizing and pre-warming based on upcoming queue predictions.
- Chromecast — connection establishment is now 2× faster on first cast and survives router DHCP renewals without dropping the session.
- Wear OS — standalone app launch time reduced to under 1.2 s on Wear OS 3 watches. Offline track download speed improved by 60 % via parallel chunk fetching.
- Telegram — thumbnail extraction now uses native C++ codecs where available, cutting CPU usage by 45 % during bulk channel imports.
- Google Drive — folder refresh now uses delta sync rather than full enumeration, reducing sync time from minutes to seconds for large, mostly-static libraries.
- AI pipeline — local TTS and translation models are now downloaded on-demand and cached in compressed form, reducing initial install size by 12 MB.
- Search — fuzzy matching handles typos, transliteration, and missing diacritics across all sources. Searching for "Beyonce" correctly finds "Beyoncé" in all connected libraries.
- Notification — the media notification now supports the new Android 15 "compact seek" style, showing a small waveform scrubber directly in the collapsed notification.
- Backup —
.pxplbackups are now streamed to storage rather than built in memory, supporting libraries of unlimited size without OOM risk. - Migration — v1.2.06 → v1.3.06 migration is fully automatic and preserves all data, sync pairings, and cached content. Expected time: <3 seconds.
🐛 Bug Fixes
- Fixed cross-device sync occasionally creating duplicate playlist entries when the same track existed in both local and YT Music sources with identical metadata.
- Fixed collaborative room reaction emojis causing a soft crash on devices running Android 12 with custom emoji font packs installed.
- Fixed AI DJ intro TTS failing to initialize on Android 15 devices with Google TTS disabled and no fallback engine configured.
- Fixed waveform seekbar not generating for tracks stored on SD cards formatted as exFAT with 4 KB cluster sizes.
- Fixed Plex/Jellyfin source not displaying album art when the server used self-signed certificates with non-standard CA chains.
- Fixed sleep timer volume fade not completing smoothly on devices where the hardware mixer only supported 16 volume steps.
- Fixed Glance widget stack not updating the top widget when the underlying stack changed while the screen was off.
- Fixed Wear OS crown scrub gesture conflicting with the system zoom accessibility gesture on some Samsung Galaxy Watch models.
- Fixed auto-curate daily mixes failing to generate when the device had been offline for >48 hours and the local cache was stale; the app now queues a generation task immediately upon reconnection.
- Fixed radio recording auto-split creating files with incorrect track boundaries when the station sent ICY metadata updates more frequently than once per second.
- Fixed Subsonic source login failing when the server URL contained a trailing slash and path-based reverse proxying (e.g.,
example.com/subsonic/). - Fixed edge-to-edge immersive player causing a 1-pixel white line artifact on the bottom edge on certain Xiaomi devices with MIUI 16.
- Fixed haptic feedback firing on every frame during fast queue scroll on some OnePlus devices with high-refresh haptic actuators, causing battery drain and overheating.
- Fixed lyrics theater mode not respecting the system screen timeout, causing OLED burn-in on long ambient tracks.

- Cross-device sync requires all devices to be on v1.2.06 or later for basic sync, and v1.3.06 for collaborative rooms and reaction features. Mixed-version sync may silently drop unsupported features.
- Collaborative listen-together mode requires all participants to be on the same Wi-Fi network with multicast support enabled on the router. Some corporate and public Wi-Fi blocks mDNS and will fall back to internet relay with higher latency.
- Plex / Jellyfin self-signed certificates must be trusted at the system level; in-app certificate pinning is not yet supported.
- SoundCloud import is limited to tracks available in your region via SoundCloud's API. Geo-blocked tracks will be skipped during import.
- AI on-device translation supports English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified). Other languages will show an "unavailable" badge and fall back to LRCLIB human translations if available.
- Waveform seekbar generation is skipped on devices with <3 GB RAM or when the track is stored on a network share with >100 ms latency.
- Always-on display player requires an OLED screen and Android 14+ with AOD support. LCD devices will show the standard lockscreen notification instead.
- Subsonic podcast channels display episodes but do not yet support download-and-sync for offline listening; streaming works perfectly.
