How to Play
Chameleon is a team-based hide & seek round. Hiders disguise themselves as part of the world; Seekers find and tag them. A host starts and controls rounds.
Host (an operator) types /chameleon play — that auto-splits teams and starts a round instantly, right where everyone is standing. No lobby or map setup needed. For map voting, teams, timers and everything else, open the panel with /chameleon. First-timers get a "How to Play" card in chat automatically (reopen with /chameleonhelp).
- Lobby — the host sets teams and starts the game. Players vote on a map.
- Hide phase — hiders get a head start to paint camo, pose, and hide. Seekers are frozen.
- Seek phase — seekers are released and hunt hiders with the paint shotgun.
- End — when time runs out or everyone is caught, a winner is shown and roles reset for the next round.
Your goal: don't get tagged. Tools you have:
-
Paint Studio (
G) — open the in-game studio and paint camouflage directly onto your player skin. Pick colours with the colour wheel, brightness and opacity sliders, and use the eyedropper (middle-mouse drag) to sample the exact pixel of any nearby block, painting, or texture — it lands pixel-perfect so you can match a wall exactly. Turn on Overspill and your sides and back match automatically. Match your surroundings and you become nearly invisible. -
Auto-Camouflage (
K) — quick one-key blend toggle (only if the host enabled it). -
Wall Cling (
V) — climb and stick to walls, fences, and ceilings like a real chameleon. Hold Sprint to climb faster; walk off the top to get down. -
Pose Wheel (
R) — strike a pose and hold perfectly still so you read as scenery, not a player. -
Lock In Place (
X) — freeze your body so you can't be nudged; look around freely. -
Decoy (
C/Z) — drop a decoy clone of yourself to bait seekers, or stack two into one fake object. You can have two out at once; each slot recharges 30 seconds after you use it, so decoys never run out — they just come at a rhythm.Zpulls every decoy you have out, which is how you save yourself when a seeker starts lining one up: by default, a seeker who shoots your decoy catches you.
Tip: the best hides combine a matched paint job and a pose against a surface — colour alone still leaves a player silhouette.
Your goal: tag every hider before the timer ends.
- You're given the Paint Shotgun. Aim and left-click to fire. It has a short reload (you'll see the pump animation).
- Tagged hiders react based on the Game Modes — they're either out, or they convert to your team.
- Decoys fire back a "fake!" hit — don't waste the round chasing clones.
Depending on the mode, a caught hider can spectate — free-look around, follow other players, or open the player list. See Keybinds and Commands for the spectate keys.
